brake pad dilemma!!

anyone had experince with EBC red or yellow pads and mintex 1155's? i've had green before but went over to mintex but not sure if they were 1144 or 1155's. i need to get a new set all round for my 4.2, i've been away for a year so a bit out of touch!! any experiences/opinions will be much appreciated. BTW i'll being doing a lot of track miles!! and if anyone can recommend another good quality pad i'm all ears!!

I have EBC greens at the mo, don't know if I am imagining it, but they don't seem to work very well from cold. What did you think of them Greg, or anyone else for that matter?? Also, what is the difference between the m1144's and 1155's??

Putting a marker onto this thread more than anything else so I get the updates, I have no real knowledge or experience to add. I am however looking at getting a set to throw in the car to take with me to the Ring in April; at my recent service I was told my pads were getting low, would certainly get me over there but worth changing before taking on the ring itself.
My first port of call was a visit to the Clevor Trevor website only to find that for a set (Red Dot I believe) all round I was looking at £325 or so, now I am not averse to spending money on my Cerb obviously but this caught me off guard and was much higher than I thought pads would cost. Doing some digging I see that EBC Redstuff have been recommended a number of times here on PH and a quick look online shows looking at a full set for £85 - much better if they are indeed "ok". Certainly don't want to scrimp on money in an area as important as brakes but that is a hell of a difference. Mintex are a little higher than EBC but still a significant saving over the Red Dot stuff.
Now this is not a pop at Clevor-Trevor by the way, I am sure the pads they choose to stock simply have a retail price up there and I have seen Pagid pads up there well into the 2 figures as well; my question I guess is, are pads at 1/3 of the price of the top ones too risky a saving to make.

Green seem to be NOT advised for the Cerb on there so don't think you are imagining it. TT Tim looks to sing the praises for EBC RedStuff so think I will head in that direction esp given the price.
I've just ordered ECB front and rear Redstuff pads from this web site. Around GBP 110 all in.

Had AP's orriginally, okay but nothing to compare with as they were in the car when I bought it. Changed to Mintex 1144's all round. Very good but really did squeal. Leven fitted Green stuff fronts and a 'secret' rear pad guaranteed not to squeal. They didn't but I couldn't get on with the Greenstuff didn't inspire any confidence. Went back to 1144's on the front, squealings back but so is rapid deceleration. One I can live with the other is kind of crucial.

Hmmmmmm...... So I am not going mad, always thought the brakes were better before the green pads were fitted, time for a change me thinks. I have lost a bit of confidence in EBC though, can someone tell me if the red pads are that much better when cold?

I think EBC Reds are track use biased pad, so worse from cold, but great for TT Tim's Sprinting.

Tim did say "Use EBC Reds as they work well from cold thanks to the new compound." So I think they may have changed now from earlier examples, so maybe not what they used to be. I wouldn't be put off EBC just because the Green's didn't work, if you go to the EBC Direct site and plug in the Cerb, it doesn't even bring up the Green's as an option, so hard to blame them if they don't even suggest them for this car. Having said that, i haven't used them so am working only from Tim's comments of course, would imagine on Sprints he would need pretty instant breaking from the start as well, more akin to road use and won't have time to build up temp over opening laps like you would on a track day.

Green stuff really don't come recommended and red stuff (I've heard) take time to warm up and so aren't suited to normal use (probably good for the ring though).

Try the new red stuff, they're cheap and the new compound does work from cold. It is true that the old reds were dreadful when cold, I used them in my 300zx and not only were they shocking from cold they were filthy too!
Mine squeel a bit, but only when you're really calling on them to work.

bit off topic but i've always had a problem with warping the discs on my 4.2 using std solid versions, didn't go for drilled cos they're supposed to crack although i've even had small cracks on solid discs too!! is there a decent aftermarket disc out there? or is my only option to upgrade to 4.5 set up??
BTW i didn't like green stuff at all, i think last pads i had were mintex 1144 which worked pretty well
