.... of broken crankshafts? Personally I think I should win myself a sold Cerb and gain a '67 Stang......just about had enough now....total costs Over 28 Months and 38,300 miles = £31,808.

Damn, I reckon you've got the unenviable record with two snapped cranks.

I've just dug this out again www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=1&f=6&t=304744&h=0&hw=crank

What was the engine number of the latest fatality ?

Gutted for you.

I don't think it's in yet, unless it broke the day it was fitted.

I'm guessing that's an estimate

Bl@@dy hell Robin, that's bad luck.

How long has Andy said it's going to take to get it sorted? You've only got 84 days, not that I'm counting.

Best of luck,

Neil.

Ps. Just to make you feel better £46k over 55 months and 44k miles.

Yes, of course. And your motor was cheap to put back on the road, wasnt it?

Might it be worth your while moving to a 4.5? Although I believe crank failures on the 4.2 are rare, you do seem to have been unfortunate-enough that a steel-cranked 4.5 will undoubtedly look more attractive now.

Sorry to hear about the failure. The expenditure you posted at the top is quite frightening. I think I'd have moved away from TVR altogether if I'd have faced that.

Interested by the engine number thing as well, see the blog says replacement was a late 97 but guess (from the fact that it has gone again) that it was just pre the upgrade - believe it was meant to be around this time that the changes were made - out of interest, is the change also indicated by position of dipstick, i.e. if at the rear I think if it was early and towards the front it is a later one. Would be scary to hear that it was a later type and still has fubared it's crank.

The bidding for the engine number of my latest crank snapper starts at.........£2000. Payment can be made via Paypal, cash or high value organs. Thanks. ;D

Ok TC, dipstick was at the the back and I've spoken to Andy since about a possible 98(R) 4.2 engine replacement (when I thought the crank issues were solved) and asked if it would have have a billet crank and the answer was an emphatic NO. I'll look out my receipt for the current engine from DVB to get an engine number...... the tension for early 4.2 owners is palpable.......I now have a deep feeling of resignation to the fact my Cerb likes to fk me proper as often as possible without rhyme, reason or lubricant. Guardian of Hell indeed....

my '97 4.2 engine number is 4200630

but I've already assumed that mine is a small journal, cast crank.
