Acceleration or Lack Of

Hi All

Did 50+ miles yesterday no problems. However, today warmed up car as usual and noticed under hard acceleration (say above half throttle) car is holding back and there is a lack of power as if it's running on 7. If I accelerate gently the problem isn't there at all it only happens if throttle is stabbed to half or above. Any ideas what this is most likely to be. All suggestions welcome.

HT lead loose or arcing to the block OR coil pack(s) breaking down. Similar symstoms - I've had both in the past.

She only had a 6000 mile service 4 weeks ago so I've ruled out plugs. The plug leads look a bit hard to get to without removing the left and right airboxes. Would the diagnostic software help with diagnosing throttle pot trouble? I've got a 30 mile drive in her tomorrow, just hope it's gone away. She's in the garage at the moment on the accumate till morning. I just hope it's crap Optimax or something. I've had Her 2 years now and this is the first time She's played up under acceleration.
What do throttle pots and coil packs cost by the way?

HT leads are aPITA to get seated right, one could have come loose. I would suggest you boot it too much as if you are running cats one could get too hot with unburnt fuel going through it.

Check the leads and take it from there.

I sometimes find if I give it a boofull in 1st, 2nd, and often 3rd, I have poor acceleration too.

it really doesn't pick up, back end feels woolly and there is a smell of rubber (presume exhaust) and some smoke (i'm guessing piston rings).

any ideas?

Think the traction control needs rebooting, check your ankle joint too.

Yup - airboxes off to check the HT leads - last time I had a similar problem a HT lead had worked itself loose and just needed pushing back in firmly - an easy fix Coil packs are around £25 a piece from German & Swedish. Take a look at the parts thread.

I just had a similer thing , it was like someone "had turned the volume down!". It was due a service - so in it went, the problem was a "lazy injector", No 5 in my case. They pulsed it with a direct 12v feed, with a test light on - till it started behaving it self.
It's been fine since, normal scary stuff - as per usual. I was also thinking it felt like a compression thing!!!...Was worring myself to death(even the wife has notice my happier disposition, since it's back).

Similar symptoms, gradually got worse. One of the HT leads had burnt out. Remove air boxes, pull leads from plugs, inspect, squirt with WD40 and replace. In my case the plug end of one of the leads was black inside. Dismantled lead, the normally rubber-like core had turned to carbon. I replaced it with a generic lead and the problem was solved.

I was mucking about. A reference to wheelspin of biblical proportions After what I paid out in clutch fixes in the 5 months I've had the car do you think I'm gong to abuse it? No NO NO!

(tyres yes - I appear to have Yoookie Ajima 'HokeyCokey 5000' rubber on mine, so that deserves to be replaced in style.)

Of course not, Remoulds all the way.... Oh f**k I just realised, I'm only 1.5miles from Southend. Bugger bugger bugger. Michelins on mine (soon), till then the Toyo Proxies will do
