Just seen my old Cerb up for sale again

Just seen my old Cerb, which I only sold 8 months ago is back up for sale from a completely different place...

I was looking at this car, as I know the guys at offord very well and want a 4.5 RR.

Was the car reliable? or as reliable as a modern TVR can be!!!

i'm assuming it can't be quite as nice as the other 4.5 for sale from Offords, which is just below cerealsurfers previously ownerd cerb on the classifieds. The other cerb is older, has more miles and is not a Red Rose, but it’s advertised £1000 more!

That's for sale at Fernhurst & they do tend to be a bit more expensive.

Not a chance..... unfortunately it would have to play second fiddle to the Morgan even if it did get it back!

This Cerb made 342Bhp on the rollers having just been set-up (with the mods listed in my blog) at the Cerb shoot out at SRR.

The Morgan with Sports Exhaust, induction and simple re-map (not re-chip) makes 335Bhp and weighs less..... and I don't need to get it tweeked to keep it there... every time you start it's on tap.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I found it took a lot to keep it in tip-top condition... especially in comparison to an equally charismatic Morgan Aero.

It was almost certainly down to the Chip supplied by TVR when the engine was rebuilt. TVR Power supplied the Hi Comp Heads to Peninsula, however the chip was shipped from TVR directly with a single map (no Red Rose Button) NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING. The Chip has a modified stamp upon it and was intended to work with the Hi-Comp heads. From my experience driving the car it slightly overfuels the engine and is not taking full advantage of the rest of the engine work I had done.. unfortunately I sold the car to Castle TVR when I saw they had the Aero on the forecourt and never got round to the next stage of upgrades which was to swap the exhause headers and undertake a final re-map. I had not bothered as I did not want to undergo multiple maps at my cost... may as well get it done right from the start.

Anyhow... I qiute liked the flames out the back, when I used it on the tunnel runs the explosions set of car alarms!!

There is some footage of it from the tunnel runs on PHtv.. although not posted by me, I can remember MadMark putting from footage up having driven behind me for the first part of one of the runs.

In my mind the Aero is a considerably more capable automobile (especially from an engineering perspective). I personally find it a much more satisfying and enjoyable driving experience as well. As for costs... at this point of ownership I had invested probably 8k in the Cerb just in keeping it runing and on the road. Whilst I have invested 2-3k into the Aero the only repair I have made (covered by AA warrenty) was a catalytic converter!! the remainder has been spent on upgrades and widgets. BMW engine, wiring loom, heating and Aircon, Gearbox etc... all mean that it's pretty much bullet proof.

The insurance is also cheeper for me by roughly 40% and for considerably better coverage.

As for men of stature... this is not uncommon for Aero owners.. in fact Morgan increased the physical space for the driver and passanger for the Mk2 onwards however I believe there is plenty of room in a Mk1, especially as it's a little more pure than the later models (in my oppinion).

Given the current state of affairs I can imagine that the Aero makes a pretty tasty alternative for ambivalent TVR owners... if for no other reason than the cost and performance is pretty equal.

Not a huge fan of the Aero8, having said that it does look better with the later headlights. But the AeroMax...

Wash your mouth out. You drive a svelt british sports car, and you've just idolised a couple of pictures that look like cruella d'ville's shopping car.

I think I would go out and buy an original morgan any day of the week compared the later morgan offerings. They show total lack of design ability, marcos left them for dead with a current design echoing the past. however morgan has just bolted a horrendously distorted looking stretched morgan face onto a total abomination rear end.
