Question for anyone who's had their windscreen replaced

When the company fits the new one, what do they do about the old mirror holder.

I know it doesn't come off the old windscreen (My Dad's already tried that for me, with disastrous results)

Where do they get the new mirror holder from, or are they already supplied cemented to the new screen ?

Mine was already cemented to the screen, I may have a spare if you need it though

I'll get a new screen, I was just worried that I'd have to mess about finding a holder for the new screen, but you've answered my question.

They took my old one off and remounted it - no idea how as I had to leave them the car all day

ive just arranged for one (screen that is) through AutoGlass, they are getting one shipped over from David Gerald, they expect to have it in a week or so - what is even better is this is all covered by my insurance co (inc rubbers) with the exception of the £50 excess!

They are standard, you will find these in any breakers usually fitted to Rovers. New screens usually come whith the mirror mounting attached.

i contacted auto glass last friday and new glass arrived today. i'll ask them where they got it from when it's fitted monday if you like.

I never thought of that when I took ours to Auto Glass, but it came back with a mirror in place. I was more worried about the whole car than the rear view mirror to be honest.

That would be great, I'd love to know if the windscreen comes with it, or do they order one from somewhere & cement it on.

I'm fairly confident they don't take it off your old screen though.

Thanks for your help have now chased Autoglass and am having new screen fitted next week hopefully they won't break this one !.

Simple answer to your post is all new glass comes with the mirror boss already fitted if any of you need to get your old ones off for any reason use a heat gun gently warm it and a scraper will slowly prise it off. Whatever you do don't ever use superglue to put them back on it reacts with the Laminate and weakens the screen you require a 2 pack glass to metal glue or nip in to a independant glass company he'll stick it back on in right place for a drink usually. My only other advice would be is politely request a senior technician to fit the glass there's a lot of crap techs out there especially in the big national companies if you need any other advice just yell.
