While I am getting the engine sorted I need a few other bits done as well so first up - new rears.

TVR centre like the Toyos at £150 each.

Recommendations please.

Michelin Piloté or Piloté Sport

Toyo will do as an alternative but will wear out rather quicker

Dubious wet weather handling though on the R888. It's the price you pay for a track biased tyre. Fantastic in the wet so I'm told. Jes Firth uses them on his Cerb' that he sprints very successfully.

I'd plump for the Goodyear Eagle GSD 3 F1s, but prior to selling my Cerb I was persuaded to try some Falken FK452 (direct from the Falken website at £80 eacheek), Ive got to admit that they were great and felt like and improvement over the Toyos that had previously been fitted (done 12k miles), they were also a better fit for the alloy, whereas the Toyo was stretched resulting in the tyrewall "pulling in".

If you're not too fussed about track day driving then give the Falkens some consideration.

Jules.

Interesting that you say that.....

I went from Falkens to Toyo T1R Proxies and the difference was very noticeable. The Toyos just have loads more grip. With the falkens, the rear was forever twitching all over the place under acceleration.

The Toyo R888's are like shit to a blanket-absolutely brilliant and in a completely different league to all the "road" tyres. On a circuit I reckon they are worth at least 2 seconds a lap over michelins or goodyears

Good in the wet too.

I have yoyo proxys at the moment so I think I will either stick with those or upgrade to the 888s you all like so much.

Been quoted 150 each for the proxys. Is that reasonable?

I'm happy with the Toyos that I've had on all 4 corners for a while now. Micheldever (as ever) do a good price.

As for the Toyos, you might well find that the T1-R wears slightly better on the shoulders than the (older) T1-S.

Used sp9000 on my Lotus for a bit and was pretty happy with them I think. And do tyres make a difference?! Um, that would be a yes! As this is the first time I have replaced them on the Cerbie it seems like a good idea to get opinions from others. SP9000 is a great tyre on an Esprit but that does not it will be so on another car.

I rather take the view that as we all belong to a forum with awesome collective knowledge it would be stupid not to ask the question and see what those ith more Cerbie experiance than I have say about it.

Thinking of which, I have toyos on the front so would I do best to stick with them at the back as well, or could I get away with the 888's or sp9000 etc?

I've just put Falken FK452's on the back of my Cerb and first impressions are that they fell much better than both the Goodyear GSD-3 and Toyo T1R I've had fitted previously. As a road tyre I'd recommend the Falkens especially at the price.

Couldn't tell from your post if you were considering the R888 on the back only, if so it's a definite no no. Has to be all round or you'll end up with major problems. The DO1J is also a a very good road legal race tyre but I'm not sure if they do sizes to suit the Cerb.

Dont remember ever saying anything on them as I've never even heard of them??

For road use in all weathers I would recommend Toyo Proxies T1-Rs from personal experience... for more track biased/ good weather use Toyo R888's seem to be the best option for TVR's.

A big difference

Very difficult to go back to std rubber ( proxes T1s for eg.) after track-day special tyres.

Oh god yes. I personally love Eagle F1's, but maybe they just suit my driving. I fitted a set to my capri and then our MX-5 and they transformed the handling on both.

Some recent experience of Falkens - bought a Cerb S6 three weeks ago with Falkens all round, have already had to replace them all grumpy - one blew spectacularly at speed yikes, one got a slow puncture and when taken off was bulging badly in four places on the inner walls, and its sister on the other side at the back had the same.

Both managers in the tyre places I went to said don't touch 'em nono. They're ok for shopping runabouts, not for 300bhp-plus sports cars!

Surprised ( and a bit worried) by the last comment about +300hp power handling. Quite a few ricers run the Falkens and a lot of them have a bit more power and certainly more weight than a cerb confused.

says he with 452's all round
