Hi Sparey

I got rid of the two crappy inserts with the threaded centre and replaced with 2 bolts using large washers either side to spread the load over the fibreglass. This area is quite weak and prone to breaking. Got used to closing the boot gently now, never slamming and no trouble since.

Regards
Simon

Thanks. Sounds like a previous owner has already done similar, but it has still failed! Any photos?
Cheers.

I'd be getting to the source of the problem that's caused you to have to force the boot open in the first place.

Perhaps you've got a knackered battery / alternator / etc.

Your patience will soon run out if you have to keep fixing the fiberglass.

All is ok except for the fibreglass! Need to repair again, but it is not easy. You need small hands and a lot of patience with the mechanism. Anyone sorted before?

Hi,

I had the same problem. I removed the catch, cut off the top of the fibreglass and simply filled the gap between the inner and outer skins of the boot around the mounts with fibreglass P38? (you know the stuff with fibres in it) and then drilled new holes and used M8 stainless steel self tappers
