It's time for the old girl to go, and I'm not sure what to do with it.

It's using to much oil for my liking, and I don't want someone moaning about it, after it's sold, so I'm going to get the engine rebuilt.

Any recommendations for the rebuild please ? Most likely piston rings.

A customer has just asked me how much I want for it, and I was thinking about £10500 less the rebuild at £2500 ish, so about £8000.

He seems quite keen, and I'm not sure if I've under valued it.

He'll be getting a fresh engined, two owner Cerb for that money.

Any recommendations on A selling price, not really in a rush to sell her, what would you do ?

And don't say burn it

Too cheap if you ask me, at £10k any buyer should have to expect to throw some money at the car already at that price, to effectively get one for around £10k with a freshly rebuilt engine would be IMO a ferkin bargain for him. Should be something more like £13.5k min if it has just had a freshen up on the engine, especially if there is some sort of warranty provided on the rebuild work. Of course I speak as an owner however so obviously biased with regards to the residuals - As you say, you in no hurry so don't give it away.

I'd sell it as is.

If the new owner wants to have it rebuilt it's up to them.

Pretty sure it will be a lot more than £2.5K for a rebuild.

All the £10K cars I've seen have been snapped up very quickly no matter what condition they're in.

I appreciate your position Russell but £10k for a car with a rebuilt engine is just too cheap in my humble opinion and I have just bought one.

Let the new owner carry the cost as long as he is aware of the need etc and I think morally you will have done all that is necessary.

Kind regards.

Yup, I would say £10k with a rebuild is too cheap. I'd put it up for £13k or £12k for a quicker sale.

I'm with Ridds.

Don't run that baby down. She's not so much an 'oil consumer' as 'more organic'. She was, after all, the fastest car on the Ring trip. Always last to leave, first to arrive.

She's a Star. 10.5K - Current, bullet-proof engine, known and publicised history - Bargain !

hehe that is so true, how does he do it!!

I'd agree with Ridds too, and try to sell it as it is, then the new owner can have the engine specced to his own preferences..the car can't be that bad, its just been to Germany and back via a few laps round the ring, cant be bad

£10K with a freshened engine. Hell I'd snap it up and resell it for at least £3k profit.

I agree with the above comments.
NO Cerbera, no matter whatthe condition (writeoffs not included) should go for less than 10k.
Period.

Sounds cheap to me.

Looking at your profile you've spent a lot on it over the past 3 years. I guess the lack of spiders (looking at the pic) will be a negative, but only a few hundred quid.

What are the outriggers like?

And how much oil is it using?

What else is wrong / not mint?

Much too cheap...

Unless the old girl is billowing burnt oil smoke out of the back like a goodun, then sell it as she is. Cerbs are never perfect - there's always something needs doing to 'em.

I'd be asking around 12k for your car oil issue or not. thumbup

My car is for sale with a newly rebuilt engine BUT it would seem to me that people just want to buy em cheap regardless of the provenance and bills etc. So I would stick it up for 9.5K as is ! You could get a rebuild for 3K if it is not too bad. But then you are competing with all the other cars for sale and people dont seem to want to pay reasonable money for a good car

As much as someone is willing to pay for it. Stick it up at a decent, honest, slightly high price.

I thought you said it had stopped drinking oil??

I agree with what others have said though, pathetically low price.

I'd done 450 miles since service, and it was still on the "max mark".

However, I've a feeling the dipstick "under reads", so when they change the oil, it's over the "max" mark

So much so, that when I'm towards the low end of the dipstick, I start getting the "zero oil pressure on left turns" syndrome.

They've put thin oil in, and in the hot weather with spirited driving, I reckon it's down to 300 miles per litre.

With the thick oil in, and normal driving, I reckon it does about 600 to a litre.

If you're doing European cruising in it, it's a bit of a Nause.

It it a bit more,

I've had it confirmed now, I can get a rebuild for £3.5K,

It's already had the oil pump rebuilt & a new timing chain, head gaskets etc.

With the advice off here, I'm going to get some cosmetics done on her, and sell "as is"
