I'm thinking about getting rid of the horrible tweed inserts on my door panels and rear shelf.

Has anyone done this?

How big a job is it?

I'm thinking of a partial re-trim to take it from this .....

to something like this .....

Excuse the quality (it was done in "paint", it's all I had to work with) but it gives an idea of what it may end up like.

Its not too difficult a Job apparently, dont do it in yellow though, a nice shade of light grey would look good.

Is it a DIY job or is it best left to the pros?

Are my ears burning???

Not too hard at all, the speaker posd is the tricky bit. Lots of tape, cutting and patience is required that's all.

Here's a few piccies....

Hope that helps.

On the plus side, if you do manage to get it that colour, you could eliminate the need to take fluorescent jackets when travelling on the continent

Yeah, a big help.

The only decision now is what colour to use.

BTW, did you re-trim the rear shelf, helmet-holder and roof panels as well?

I'm assuming the roof has to be done over the existing material.

Isn't the roof lining a pig to get out?

It looks like it went in before the glass.

And I'll never need interior lights again.

Parcel shelf is done too. It's a right pig that one. I'd give that a 8/10 for trickyness where as the doors are a 4/10.

Not done the roof linig as yet, looks a nightmare and heard horror stories here so I think I'll leave it for now.

Ireland! You do SO much on that car!! All good and very interesting - particularly this thread since I have 11 yr old beige tweed in my car that will have to go at some point.

But do you ever get a chance to drive her

I actually had someone e-mail me to know had I a picture of how to get something off the Cerb and guess what ..... I had.

It was another of those little jobs I did and took pictures.

I think the reason I've done so much is down to a few factors

1 - I'm fussy.

2 - The bad roads here show up all the little faults with the suspension that are not evident on good roads.

3 - A lot of the jobs I've done are minor but I have to do them myself, or at least have a go at them, as I don't have the option of a dealer or indie within 5 hours of me.

4 - I looked at the car myself and didn't spot the little faults on it. I should have used Rob Ingleby or James Agger (go on, someone tell me "I told you so" ).

As for driving it, I do get a decent bit of use out of it.

I'm putting about 1000 miles on it every month so I guess that's about average for a Cerb, is it not?

Back on topic.I replaced the tweed on my door cards.I originaly wanted purple alcantara for the doors. But i couldnt have this has Alcantara only comes in five base colours, purple not being one of them.I opted for some faux leatherette.(imitation leather to you and me)bought of off e-bay.4 mtrs for £8.And it really does look like the real thing.Done the parcel shelf in it as well.I got a trimmer to do the rest.charged me £90 to do the both doors.Im not attempting the roof as the lining is bonded to the glass.

i removed the lot and gave it to a furniture upholstery company.
they did the lot for £150 in cream then came to my house to do the roof top job done .
they did say that they would never do it again well out of pocket .

I never thought of that option.

There's a furniture guy about 2 miles from here and I know he's well into cars, but I don't know if he's ever done the upholstery in one.

I assume they just stuck it over the existing headliner, did they?

I reckon I'm probably a bit far away for them to come to my house.
