Does anyone know where i can buy a new ( or second hand ) standard exhaust. I have a sports exhaust and decat at the moment, but cant help feel its a bit too raw for me. I've heard that the standard exhaust and decat is a good balance...

Have you looked at the Silverstone Performance backbox, it's the way I am going soon. Bit more expensive than the standard item but will last longer. Sounds lovely yet comes up at about 98db so track compliant - certainly the 2 cars running them at the Ring trip a couple of weeks back were (mostly) getting on without probs. Also look a lot nicer than the standard item and fits really well into the apertures.

I have a load of bits in the classifieds, take a look.

But yes, I have a standard system for sale.

I've got the standard exhaust & decat on my 4.2, and I like it. Day to day driving it doesn't sound loud & you can be conspicuous (ish).

When you give it some revs, it's got a nice "raspy" sound.

Uncle Bulgarias latest vid has some footage with the windows down.

I've got a sports zaust on the 4.5, and I'm not that keen on it.

Yup I suspect the silver 4.5 around Swindon has this. It was spitting flames on the overrun as well...

I have a Silverstone Performance exhaust with linked decats.
Well made and looks good.
It measured 101db at Bedford.
It booms a bit at motorway speeds when you just crack open the throttle - don't know if the noise emanates from the exhaust or the lack of cats though.

I too have a decatted 4.5 with strandard exhaust and I think it sounds great! As has been said, it can be unobtrusive when pottering, but really snarls when the boot is down!

I don't subscribe to the ethos of having as loud an exhaust as possible, I just find it offensive and unnecessary. But then again, I am old.

However my opinion might be changing a bit: A mate who has an XK8 was recently told that it was a cool car but if he wanted to attract 'chicks' he'd have to get a louder exhaust.

Apparently the louder, the chickier.

I'll go and brush my teeth.

I've got to get ready for all these "chicks" that'll be attracted to me.

I've had trouble finding a standard one too as mine is falling to bits. I've just bought a 2nd hand sports one (think its the ACT one) and some new stainless intermediate pipes from JP. The only thing is ive got some crazy freeflow cats on the car so i'll be interesting to see how loud it will be when it gets done on monday. I'm scared now! Some more noise will be good but hopefully not TOOOOO much.

I'd like a sports exhaust for my 4.5 which has cats and standard pipes. What sort of sports pipes do you run? What about a swap? Decibels = chicks apparently

Well i'm gonna try the standard back box first, and see what the difference is. The likelihood is that i'll be looking to get rid of the sports exhausts, i'll drop you a mail when I know more.
