Clutch was a bit notchy yesterday, and a bit more difficult to engage.

this morning started up, got first gear. Drove out of the garage, after which I could not engage any gears at all.

What d'you reckon? Clutch or hydraulics?

How’s the pedal travel – if its worsened; i.e. got a lower biting point then check for fluid leaks. Take a look behind the top of the pedal under the dash and check for fluid there - if so suspect master cylinder seals. If not check for fluid under car from bellhousing – if so suspect slave cylinder seals (gearbox out to rectify). You may get away with bleeding the clutch fluid in the interim if it’s not too low. Take a look in the reservoir under the siliconed-in cover plate under the batwing on the offside. Any traces of black pieces in the fluid are likely to be bits of seal. Finally if no change in clutch biting point then suspect broken fingers on clutch diaphragm (gearbox out too). Let us know how you get on. A few weeks back I had the fluid from bellhousing, diminishing biting point and difficulty engaging until it gave up altogether. It was failed slave seals – so the whole slave was replaced with a new uprated Clever Trevor slave – gearbox out jobbie!.

I think we need to start a clutch check list for when things go wrong LOL

First check under your Gearbox for any signs of clutch fluid. (will indicate slave seal leaks)
Next check drivers footwell and behind pedals. (will indicate master seal leaks)

---- Both of those are possible with out tools or mechanical knowledge----

Next check the reservoir, top up if necessary, and bleed regardless as precaution.
If all the above are OK then you are most certainly looking at a gearbox out job, so not worth speculating until its out.

Just a basic quick guide from me.

just took my gearbox out this morning after continuous hydraulic problems. went bout 2 weeks ago bled up and been fine since, but went again thursday(fluid leaking from bell housing). found slave seals gone. must have timed it right cause the clutch fingers are nearly through and the discs are nearly there aswell. suppose i'll be on the phone to clever trevor monday fore a few new bits
if you've no fluid leaks then maybe your fingers have been eaten, looks like there will be a lot of gearboxes coming out lately

a couple of weeks back I spotted a tiny drip of unknown fluid in the front section of the zorst. I checked at the time, but couldn't find the source. Sounds suspect to me now.

Since car's now done 23k, IF the box is out, it'll make sense to upgrade the clutch while I am at it. I have a bad feelin this one's gonna hurt my feeble bank balance.

Out to garage now to check fluid (not that it'll make me feel any better).

Its do-able if you have the right tools and preferably a garage with a pit(and a fair bit of spare time!)
