Hello all,

I am returning to TVR after a 5 year absence and I am looking for a well sorted Cerbera (need to fit a one year old in the back), seen the following for sale on Pistonheads.

www.pistonheads.com/sales/151421.htm

It looks to be a well loved car, since it is the other end of the country to me, I wondered if anyone knew the car and could advise if it is worth the journey to have a look? and worth the money!!!!

cheers, Colin

Its a speed six ! Are you sure you dont want a 4.5 / 4.2 ? 16K gets you a great 4.5 (ie mine) !

Speed sixes are notoriously unreliable I believe. I personally wouldn't touch one.

3-0 to the V8's, looks like a white wash to me. Come on Speed Six owners (maybe they are all working overtime to pay for the rebuilds).

Need to get out there and drive some. Feeling scared about that, I just know the cheque book will be getting hammered

Nothing wrong with S6, as long as the engine has already had it's rebuild.. Looks like about 2/3rd's of them need one before 30K. Once it is done they are top dollar..

cheers

Does anyone know how long the S6 rebuilds last though?

Has anyone done serious mileage on a rebuild yet?

Drive a 4.5 V8. Then make your own mind up.

The S6 engine rebuild/reliability debate is really best had on the Speed Six engine section. There isnt an AJP8 section because the engines dont generate much debate re reliability, much conjecture, much depression etc...

Wow, cheers guys. I'm swaying towards the V8, I think!!!!!

I'm going to visit my local dealer and specialist (Harrogate Horseless Carriage & Sports and Specialist Car Company) one day this week and go for a drive in a couple of cars with the different engines and make my mind up from there. If I prefer the V8 thats great, if I prefer the S6 I will just have to make sure I find a pampered beast and make sure there is some money put by just in case.

Things seem more complicated since I had my S2, it was all straight forward back then.

Not returning to Cerb, just returning to TVR. Used to have a 1989 S2, loved it.

should read the thread over on the speed six forum, power are now offering 2 year unlimited mileage on s6 rebuilds. sounds like the big six's woes have been sorted.
any how it didn't stop me from buying one

He's right you know.

And if you get your V8 rebuilt, you only get a year's guarantee.

Food for thought
