Right i am seriously pissed off with my car today

Went to treat it to a wash and polish so went to move it on the drive, went into reverse okay but seemed a little trickier than usual. Reversed up the drive and then went to select first...wouldn't go in, notice the pedal travel a lot shorter and not coming up fully......can't get in any gear whilst the engines running, will select gears with engine off.

There's a bit of fluid on the floor so I'm assuming it's the slave or master cylinder...

Now here's the annoying part which really makes my blood boil

I recently had my car in at a garage and ended up having a new clutch as my engine/box were out. I asked if they would change the clutch cylinders as i knew these were common problems. I was advised they weren't a problem and I shouldn't waste my money and not bother yikes

1600 miles later and I can't engage gears

Now I don't have any free time at the moment to fix the car due to work commitments, how big a job is it replacing the cylinders in terms of labour hours as I could have had them fitted for effectively zero labour while its out so if it turns out its a huge job then i'm going to very depressed

Ho hum, i knew i should have listened to myself.....but i guess you trust these well known companies to advise you.

Best go wash the car as i think it'll be sat there a while now

I'm now worried it might be the clutch that's broken or the fingers as it won't go into gear with the engine on and even though pedal isn't right, it still goes down and with the engine off if i push the pedal down it goes into gear easier than if you try to push it in without.

also, I wanted a clevor trevor clutch fitted but was yet again advised to fit the std AP version despite my many reservations.

Should stick with my gut feeling really

Edd,

Its the slave gone, classic symptoms.

Fisrt thing I would do is go back to the place where you had the engine and clutch changed. Just act dumb and say the clutch has gone after they fitted it, and see what they say. You must have some warranty with their work. Do they know TVR's? Because after your comments it doesnt sound like it.

Are you thinking of changing the slave yourself?

If you need a good indy in your area, ish, then let me know. I can fully recommend one to you.

Their customer service has always been unbelievably good and they have been very accomodating to my problems.

I just hate it when the car goes wrong especially when with the cylinder i know they are common problems and should have just pushed them to change it.

I think they are sick to death of me whinging to be honest

I'm assuming they take the gearbox out rather the engine, so you can work out what sort of a job it is.

I'd say you're looking at a siezable portion of the day for the work.

. . . I would personally go for the uprated clutch, certainly the diaphragm anyways, as the OE part has a finger spring weakness in the Cerbera application. I have recently had the CT slave fitted and will install the full CT clutch kit when mine eventually gives up the ghost - hopefully not for another year or so

Not having the full kit - I can't comment from personal experience although my clutch action is certainly as good (very very smooth) if not slightly better than originally with the new slave kit fitted. If you search the forums you will see others after bedding the new CT clutch in have nothing but praise for it.

Sorry to hear about your clutch issues . I had the CT clutch fitted back in February, there was no bedding in time and it feels great .

Hope you're back on the road very soon!

Ok so it seems they messed up in the first place, but at least are prepared to rectify the fault.
Lets hope more company's take note.

The £1200 includes the slave cylinder (£240) which is advisable to change aswell as a new seal kit (£36) then add labour (4hrs) and VAT and its £1200! (This is for a AP clutch - Cleveor Trevor was all out of clutches when i was after one).

I think its the fact that they are not brake fluid resistant!
