Hi,

Had a strange thing happen tonight - leaving work the handbrake was on real tight, it was a struggle to get off. Then the first time I came to use the brakes (250 metres later) they didn't work!

The pedal moved down a good distance but stopped abruptly and I could hear a loud sshhhh noise when I pressed the pedal. It wasn’t like they didn’t work like normal they really didn’t work, the brakes were on quite hard and the car still rolled. Obviously I was driving very slowly (20mph) from then and the second time I came to use them about 100 meters later (luckily uphill + using gears stopped the car) they didn’t work again.
Undeterred I continued home very very slowly the next point I came to use them was about 2 miles later at the end of a duel carriage way and they worked fine. I continued home pretty tamely but the brakes seemed fine for the rest of the journey.

I have checked the fluid and it is on the MAX, no fluid loss (no pools under the car), the brake assembly seems fine (can’t see any leaks). The only think I can think it was is that the handbrake had jammed something on and I had severe brake fade.

Does anyone know much about the handbrake or have any ideas - not having any brakes did make me lose some confidence in flooring it!

Tim.

Any idea how much to fix?

Is it a DIY job or on a tow truck to the nearest TVR indie?
