....to get a Cerbera as a daily driver?
I am in turmoil because I've been wearing Mrs. Hag down for years about getting something ridiculous and impractical and we've finally reached agreement that I can buy such a car provided it has back seats, a boot that can carry my diving gear and a womans luggage and doesn't cost the earth(so, not so impractical, not as impractical as an Elise).
So, anyone out there doing about 15k p/a in a cerb without too many problems or am I thick stupid?

i personally would,nt use mine as a daily car it kust would,nt be practical as much as i love driving her, some phers may do but im glad we got a second car for daily use, but welcome to the mad and sometimes expensive world of cerbera ownership imo there just aint anything else out there as exhilerating, well not in my price range best of luck in your search
Thanks lads, I'm beginning to think it may be beyond me. With all the bills/servicing/fixes I have to add to that transporting it from Ireland to a TVR specialist in the UK, or find one here in Ireland which is not going to be easy. Porsche 964 is looking like a safer bet....then again, I might just get a Griff as a toy and keep the merc....time for reflection I think.
There are people in Ireland who can service a Cerb quite happily.
Torque Flyte in Ballygowan (south of Belfast) for example. But aside from major services, its a job any competant, experienced mechanic can do.
There's also a lot you could do yourself, if you're that way inclined.

There are 4 Cerbs in the Republic that I know of, me and 'Ireland' are on here, not sure if the other two are, and between us and with this forum's help I reckon we could fix just about any problem at this stage, somehow!

It aint cheap but boy it's worth it!! Hairy Balls, Hairy Chest, Admiring Looks from JP and that feeling of Yeeeeeeessssss. The Cerb ticks all the right boxes and then presents you with boxes you didn't know existed.
I've used mine as a daily driver for 2.5 yrs and coming up 40k miles and it's cost about 75p per mile all told. If you can live with it then you've lived.
{Insert Nike Tagline here]

When you say it's going to cost me....what does that mean exactly? Am I going to need a tub of vaseline or a barrel?
I'm spending 4k this month on a service, nitrons, discs, etc etc and that is to bring the car upto A1 standard, there is now not much left to buy a tube of KY.
But is it worth it? Dam right it is!

Have you thought of putting all your money in a holdall and leaving it on the footpath for someone to take? I use mine every day of the year come rain or shine. I don't do 15000 miles a year, but quite honestly, if you're getting the running temp up to normal and then some, every day I can only see this as a plus.
You may use a little more oil than most and of course your petrol bill will be higher than most, but over all if you treat the car with respect and don't boot it all the time you shouldn't really have too many problems.
Your clutch may go or your suspension may need replacing, but most good garages can deal with this. If your prepared to get your hands dirty with all the small things and can come on pistonheads for advice and infortmation, then quite honestly I can't see that you should be that worried.
We've all had our moments and thought about pushing them off a cliff and buying an M5 or similar, but in the end you've just got to love'em.
Go for it - everybody loves a CERB...

Just out of curiosity, how much was the VRT for your Cerbs? And how much is the insurance?
VRT - £185 iirc
INS - Hugely dependant on age, location, annual mileage and NCD but to give you an idea I'm in SW London, 35 yrs old, Full NCD, Unlimited Annual Mileage, TVR TRackday insurance, parked off road but not garaged and it's 950 quid. When I was living on the South coast and it was garaged it was 825 quid.

Mine's on Irish plates since January and the VRT seems to vary depending on which office you go to and who you meet when you get there.
I got the quote down the country but VRT'd it in Dublin as I wanted a "D" plate and the Dublin office wanted more VRT than I'd been quoted but agreed to my figure when I produced the official quote document.
Expect to pay about €5K VRT for a '97 and guess from there (TVR's are not on their website).
My insurance is slightly different as I am, among other things, listed as a part-time motor trader so that covers me for virtually any car but it should be the same as something like an Evo, a Scoobie or a Skyline.
