I'm having problems starting the cerbera, basically I press the starter button & f**k all happens. I've recently had the starter out, had it recon'd & refitted it. Everything was fine for a week, untill Saturday night when I was left stranded at work.
If I disconnect the smaller wire to the the starter and connect it to a live the car starts, so I know the starter's not goosed, when everything is connected as it should be there's nothing but a click from the ignition control box in the boot when I press the starter button.
Does anyone have any ideas' as to how to tackle this, or does anyone have any experience of this.
Thankyou in advance.........

Hav you checked the fuse in the boot? I think it's fuse 13 on my 1997 4.2.

I would suggest something to do with the immobiliser? Check all the connections in the harnesses behind the helmet hole.

I know that 'Ireland', poster of this parish, had similar problems and resolved them this way.

Andy.

try hot wiring the immobiliser and you should then be able to discount that as a problem.

Thanks for the link Marcus, guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow night now, bypassing the immobiliser.

You'll probably just need to bypass the starter motor circuit, not the full thing.

That way you'll still have a decent level of security still in place.

Also, before you go chopping your loom to bits, try putting a loop across the necessary points on the multi-plug to confirm that your problem does indeed lie in the immobiliser.

Pete - I'd give Carl Baker a ring before you start cutting bits of wire, he is more than helpful.

Agreed.

Cut only as a last resort, and then only at the immobiliser side of the multiplug.

Still stuck, read all the threads on the subject which ended in me trying the joining of the red/white wires into the immobiliser trick & you guessed it, still nothing!
I've tried the holding the starter button for 5 minutes plus whilst opperating every electrical item I can reach & still nothing, the shaking of the wiring loom behind the helmet holder didn't even work.
So whats next?

I have similar starting problems with black button, but when i need too all i do is keep the black button pressed in and turn off and then on again the silver key, and that starts it when needed.

check the sterring wheel functions control box drivers side bulkhead if you can temporarily swap with someone just to eliminate it from possible causes

Have you replaced the big fuse or soaked it in WD40. I know it sounds rough round the edges, but if I'm honest, this usually is the best thing for it in my experience. At least it rules out this problem, after all without the big fuse in good working order, everything else may be somewhat impaired.

I've soaked the big fuse, but not replace it as yet, (it does appear a liitle bent) I've put the voltage meter on it & it seems fine, plus all the other electrics seem fine.

Just to save a shed load of time & possible swearing for other folk, I've traced my problem! There's a starter relay in the passenger footwell ( no body on'ere mentioned it in all my searches') by the side of this is a standard 40amp fuse, you guessed it, that was the little f**ker!! Changed that an'it started, next time it'll be my first place to look.
