Mine broke this evening.

Got home with one hand frozen from having it out the window to pull the remainder of the cable ..... but it worked.

Anyhow, what's the cable off?

I know a cable off a bike can be used but the local bike shop closed down recently so I'll be up and running sooner if I can get it in the local auto-factors.

I don't know what the cable is off and if you can't cet a bike one Peugeot throttle cables came as a kit, with a long inner cable, perhaps measure yours and see if that will fit. Its a bit vague but all I can think of other than genuine.

I got one recently from a TVR dealer mate. Its the correct one apparently but its a bit too long, so there's a lot of spare snaking around in the top of the footwell. It sticks - and I had to beef up the return spring because of it, which is why my pedal feels stiffer than yours.

Its something I'd like to fix actually.

Andy.

I used one from a bike shop.Much better quality than the original and cost me less than £2.All i did was put a clamp on the end.Pushed it in to the canter leaver and clamped it over to stop it falling out.And its still doing the job a year later.

The one bike shop I passed today has a sign in the window "Closed on Wednesdays".

I'll have to use my bicycle to get around tonight.

I got a cable off a bike today but haven't had time to fit it yet.

It looks like it can be made to work alright.

By the way, how have you lot secured the end of the new cable at the pedal?

The old one had a ball crimped / soldered on it but I'll have to find an alternative method for the replacement.

top tip of the day ireland what i have done in the past is used a fishing lead shot they come in various sizes you may have to open the hole a bit (thats what the actress said to the bishop i know) till cable passes through then crimp in place with suitable crimping device or pliers will do as its soft it is quite easy to work with its worked for me in the past anyway.

Mine snapped three weeks ago, managed to limp home. I went to the local bike shop and asked for the longest rear brake cable they had got. The guy asked what nipple did I want on the end, my reply was it's for a car doesn't mater. It was thicker than the cable TVR fitted and was a sin-ch to fit. £2.50 money well spent, and I made the Birmingham tunnel run the next day. You Know it makes sense.

The bike cable has been fitted and works a treat.

It's a fairly simple job, just thread the cable as below

I secured it inside with a strip connector I'd sawn in half

and it appears to be fine.

I'm going to leave about 75mm of surplus on the cable inside the car and clamp it to the shaft of the pedal with a jubilee clip, just in case the strip connector slips.

Another simple repair, and it only cost €3 (about £2) for the cable.

How long was the cable you bought JJ, what was on the ends when you got it, and how did you secure the outer tube inside the car?

I'm tired of mine sticking, which its doing because its too long and curls around inside the car too much.

I just got a 2100mm inner cable and re-used the existing outer tube.

The end wasn't a ball like the original but had an end on it that fitted properly into the slot at the engine end.

I just cut the inner cable to size when I was finished.

I'll be getting a spare cable to keep in the car so if you want I can get you one as well.

Also I sourced, but didn't get, a full universal replacement from a guy who made replacement cables for motorbikes in the past that's the same length as the Cerb one and comes with a selection of ends.

I think it costs €10.00 + VAT.

He's in Cashel so you should be passing close enough to him some day.

Give me a ring if you want his details.

Well I think my problem is that my existing outer it too long by about 6 inches. Trouble is I'd have to strip it out to measure it and be able to get a replacement!

I wonder has anyone else who's changed their for an original has had this problem?

I measured my broken one at about 1370mm (53" as far as I remember) and the replacement one he had was 54"
