11 Days in and the first proplem arises; not a biggy but when the engine gets hot and the lights are on the main beam flashes (not full beam) like a machine gun.

Not a massive problem as I just turn them off and drive with dipped beams, but, going on an overnighter to France this weekend and don't want to attract unwanted attention.

Anyone had this problem with their (gas discharge) lights?

Ideas?

Emergency over.

Loose connection under the dash - fixed in 30 secs.

However, whilst checking this noticed the brake lights don't work - I don't know while I'm smiling whilst writing this - you gotta love em.

So, it's had two brake light switches in its lifetime - same culprit? where are they located and where can I get one quick?

Don, the brake switch is a small white plastic device actually on the brake mechanism in the footwell - have a look, you can't miss it. It works on a simple plunger system and requires to be set up quite carefully - you might find it just needs realigning slightly. Good to see you're starting off with the small niggles first

Ah ha! Couldn't wait for part to arrive so took off old switch, opened it with the correct tool (kitchen knife), couldn't believe what a simple mechanism it was, cleaned the connections, bolted back to the car.

Hey presto - brake lights!

Now I have never got my hands even remotely dirty before and shudder at the thought of electrics - two tiny problems, two fixed and only a slight scratch and a tiny drop of blood left on the brake mechanism - does that mean the car and I are brothers now?
