Cracked manifold (help)
Discussion
Went to start my car this morning and it sounded like a tank. I had used it all weekend (Holy Island Hoon) and yesterday without any problems or strange noises. I couldn't believe the engine had broken over night it sounded awful and as though it was comming from the middle of the engine (crank) so after my guts settled down from the sickness feeling and I took off the air inlet manifold (or what ever it is called) I could see that the underside of the manifold was cracked all around one of the welds.
My question is, is it possible to remove the Right hand Manifold (looking from the front)
with every thing else left in place? it seems very tight in there. I would hate to think that the engine needs to be lifted out.
Any advice would be helpful please.

a lot of people suggest engine out but apparantly you can loosen the engine mounts and do some jiggery pokery to move/release them to be able to weld. I did some searches here and it seems like trackcar has a magical way of doing in situ, it may be worth contacting him. keep us updated as I think this is a common issue.....
Depending on the part of the manifold pipe joint that is cracked then you may be able to get it welded up in situ.
If not then the manifold can be removed without the engine being removed, if I remember correctly then the side you are referring to is the easier side....but I could be wrong.
When I replaced my manifolds I was convinced that I could remove them both without moving the engine..........numerous "sex faces" later I gave in and accepted that the engine mounts needed to be undone so that the engine could be levered over one side at a time. It's not too time consuming and worth doing if your manifolds are in a bad state. Do a search and you'll find a few threads about their removal.

I eventualy got round to taking off the cracked manifold, and it is now away to get welded. it is possible to get out by undoing the engine mounts, removing the bonnet catch, coolant reservoir, bracket and battery.
The guy who helped me used to race rally cars and said that when he has welded it he intends to lag the manifold so that it is not affected by the cold air so quickly when it cools as this is when they tend to crack. Apparently this is common practice with rally cars.
Has anybody done this before?
