I've seen the "laptop connection" topic come up several times, and am naturally intrigued! However, the last thing I want to do is screw anything up with unnecessary tinkering... so thought I'd try and find out a bit more about the software etc.

As far as I can gather from wandering round the forum archives, the software floats around out there, typically via email. The leads are available from Maplin type vendors, or somewhere like this: www.clever-trevor.net/cars/1-cerbera-v8.html

Now, I've got a '99 4.5 so shouldn't (he says!) have any problems hooking up to a laptop, but am still not 100% clear what the benefits are from doing so, whether I really should make the effort to do so, or whether it's only for those who really know what they are doing?

Any advice, experience, or thoughts would be welcomed.

Thanks - Phil.

It's one of those things that that you will learn how to use. All you need is a standard serial cable from PC World/Maplins.

The software is Diagnostic software and you will find it useful, it tells you exactly what your car is the engine is doing and you won't screw anything up by plugging it and reading the display.

Software, manuals etc are now hosted via a server at home. Might as well use my 10Mb link smile This way we don't have bandwith issues anymore smile
