Hi

I have had three Cerb's now.
Two S6 and now a very nice 4.5, but I am always looking for some thing better!
Now what is a Genuine LW, not TVR gosip but the offical Factory spec!

The theory is that LW's had thinner fibreglass on the bonnet, boot and roof. Also their introduction coincided with TVR thinning the windscreen surround and starting the changeover to pod lights.

I think the reality is that it made next to no difference to the weight, in fact some feel that LWs can be heavier!

I was told that the weight of the driver determines standard or LW.
LW is as skinny as a girl's blouse with no balls !

Mine is a LW, there is a definite difference in the weight of the bonnet compared to others.
Not so easy to tell with the boot as it is helped up with the lift things.
The rear seats are different (no headrests) the fronts are Tuscan style. The top front roll bar is flatter and no sunvisors.
Not sure the effect on overall weight difference, people say "not much".
I've never weighed mine.

Hi

Thanks for all your info. But so far no one has come up with any real proof what a LW is. What I mean is, has any one got the spec/facts issued from the factory (If you can believe them)that can be sourced.
With regard to the question "Why have I got three Cerbies" I have only got the 4.5 now. I had the first customer S6 (New) which was replaced after a year with another (New) S6, which I had for two years. Following a cap of three years I then got the 4.5 which had only done 9,150 when I got it in April!
I have my views on what is a LW but am intersted in the offical wording/Spec!

If it's proof you're after, drive it to the pub and buy it 5 pints of strongbow. If it goes home after 2, it's a lightweight smile Sorry, couldn't resist.

I think mad mark sums up the difference. The LW was introduced in 2000 I think. Mine's a LW. The lack of sun visors is a constant source of ridicule from the other half. I think the introduction of the LW coincided with the facelift - front and rear lights, Tuscan seats, colour-coded windscreen & rear screen trim, spiders, etc. I heard the doors are also lighter, though I've been known to be wrong.

There's the difference - you can see the sun in a lightweight - I can't through my letterbox windscreen.

Nice humour, but still no one has claimed to have a written spec from the factory with quotes the difference, againts a normal Cerbie!. Or what the LW spec is!

Is the meaning LW = Light weight just another TVR folk lore/myth or what?

It wasn't folklore or myth, there really is a Light Weight model of the Cerb.......have a read of this thread that sheds a bit of light and answers your questions.

Thanks for that info! But if you read it, its all hearsay no one has yet come up with writtern spec from the factory. Most of the the mods/differances mentioned are/were standard on all Cerbie's from 2000. i.e Tuscan seats, change of rear lights, no sun visors, (mainly due to the front windscren bar being flaterned)etc.

Some one must have a writtern spec sheet or sale info quoting the LW spec etc.

If not then what proof is there "What is a LW"

Please can any one answer this topic!
All I want is positive proof what a LW is. I have heard all the stores i.e. Light weight panels, light weight engine parts. But no one has come up to say they have written proof of this, either sales docs or spec from the factory!
Surely some one can help, or is it as I am more become to belive a TVR myph which has started and just grown!

I was comparing mine to a late Cerbera yesterday. Very interesting but probably won't help with the LW details, but:

The roofline was different. The grove in the roof was much more pronounced and went all the way to the front, rather than fade out towards the front.

The wind deflectors were colour coded, much wider and hence shaped almost like an elongated S.

The windscreen seemed larger and certainly had a much thinner black surround to it.

Interior - the demist vents didn't have my bulet holes along the front but two large vents. It also had a vent under the drivers knee.

You're going to have trouble pinning this down.
My Red Rose Lightweight factory build sheet simply had 'Red Rose Pack' and 'Lightweight as per Press car' - whatever that meant.
The first owner was a friend of Wheeler's and the build sheet notes 'excellent build quality please - per PW'. Must have worked as nothing ever goes wrong with it.
