Exhaust Manifolds ---- Options??
Discussion
My manifolds are cracked, I may weld them up but was wondering what available replacement ones are out there? and what peoples experiences are with them ie Power, noise, fitment (AS I'll be fitting them myself) etc...
Also is a remap worth while after fitting performance manifolds? and what gains, if any, are predicted?

Mark, I know that ACT supply their own performance ones (approx £800 IIRC so not cheap). I've got some really minor cracking on mine, LEVEN suggested getting leaving them for now but if it gets worse then having them re-welded rather than replace with another pair of standard ones as the same thing will happen again due to stresses on the welds.
Wotcha Mark,
Mine were quite badly cracked - I took them off myself after
being told by Offords was an engine out job ...
air boxes and inlets and water manifolds off
ended up undoing gearbox mount both engine mounts and balancing the whole lot on a trolley jack
was able to lift up enough to joggle engine from side to side to get them out.
I got a local company to weld them as wanted the best job I could get
and 5000 miles later assume they are still ok?
Noboby was offering an alternative at the time - but the new ones from ACT are 2 part(I think)
and thus easier to remove.
Good Luck ... DAS

Mark, take a butchers at this thread...might help you with replacements... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Did I overtake you at Brands then Mark?

My manifolds are pretty bad, along the weld (the usual place) and on the other there is a large 'V' shape developed in the middle away from the welds.

Thanks Paddy, I knew there was a thread quite recently, but I couldn't find it on the search thingy.
Looks like I missed out on that offer then

So how much are the BTB manifolds any way Jools? (I am sitting down!)

Don't know how much factory (or if there is such a thing anymore) ones cost but the ACT ones, made by JP are of a very high standard, certainly higher than original and afaik no more expensive. Have a look around at after market manifolds generally and you'll realise these are a bargain. Plus side is they are very shiny and every set fitted so far have gained torque and power, the latest sets have a subtle imporvement to them too.
Get in quick as I know JP are doing a batch for Tim at the moment and they have realised the labour (about 2 days work) is making them 'not cost effective', read the price will go up soon, if it hasn't already

. As the ACT manifolds come in two sections and removal of the originals is a pain in the rump, is it feasible to cut out the old ones without removing/moving engine (very careful use of small angle grinder) then fit new ones? Would save a lot of farting about with engine. Would also mean the price of ACT are very reasonable relative to man hours used otherwise.
