Does anybody have a spare wheel? i am not realy bothered about condition (so long as it is still circular) i only intend to keep it in the garage. I have a spare tyre that i thought would be better on a rim in case of emergency.
If so please let me know the details and cost.
Cheers
Andy

be careful mate, you need 4 spares if you want a standbye, most cerbies have a directional tread pattern and fronts and rears are different sizes.

2 tubes of tyre weld are the best bet.

Good point, i did think of this before and figured that if you got a puncture at 120mph by the time you stopped assuming you were still between the white lines, the tyre is likely to be in tatters as might the rim, so a spare front would be useful as it will fit front and back. With regards rotation it couldn't possibly be any worse than a space saver even if it was back to front just to get you home, could it?

If a directional tread pattern were fitted in the wrong direction, even whilst being used as a 'get home' I suggest that in the event of an accident your insurers would use this as a 'cop out'

they will come out with their usual bull that as the manufacturer didn't supply the vehicle with a spare and the car is fitted with a directional tread....blah blah the vehicle due to the fitment of a non matched or incorrectly fitted spare blah blah.

Even using a non directional (get home wheel and tyre / spacesaver) may void your insurance in the event of an accident.

It will also effect the diff if a wheel with a smaller rolling diameter were fitted on the same axle as the original...?

for what its worth, i've never carried a spare in the cerb, the only incident I had resulted in smashing up 'both' off side rims and tyres weeping

As above, more hassle than it's worth. Besides, why do you want to add weight to the car? wink

i don't intend to carry the spare wheel in the car. it would be left at home for delivery by my wife to the roadside in the event of a puncture. Just thought it would be usefull as i now have two spare tyres (part worn). 2 new fronts on today for the Les Mans trip on thursday.
