Anyone using alternative gearboxes and clutches in the Cerbera?
Trying to build up a knowledgebase so that I can make an informed decision on what route to take.

5 speed close-ratio is ideal, though reports of 6-speeds are more than welcome?

Raceproved have started to make aftermarket clutches with increased strength and torque rating.

You can find them at www.trackcarsolutions.net

(or other places if you use google)

Try www.gearboxman.co.uk for gearbox advice. A T5 with strengthened internals is probably your cheapest option. Steve Heath was talking about a uprated T5 handling 800 lbft a while back - that should be enough for you I'd hope.

Steve.

Pah more replies to this than my desperate plea for replacement boxes/internals after mine failed. laugh

Will be keeping my eye on this too.

From what I've found:

Gearboxman
G-Force transmissions
Bearing rebuild kits on ebay
Close ratio gearboxes from a Tuscan
big money Quaife ones.

There was a close ratio gearbox designed by Glebe engineering.
James Hall (remember him?) had one in his cerb. It was the first
CR box for a TVR that I have heard of.

Allegedly TVR evaluated an example from Glebe and then decided not to
buy it, instead they made their own which was rubbish and took ages to sort out.

Give Glebe a ring, they might have James' old box lying around or at least be another
supplier to get a quote from.

If you do a search on Glebe you might find a load more info.

Blimey ro_butler, going back a few years there!!

Last time I remember James Hall posting was to express his disgust that "some plank" had just written off his beloved Cerb...

*ahem* ridds wink

Was that me then? laugh

Wonder if it was him who emailed me to tell me that they'd put it into a hedge backwards at nigh on 60mph and had been "written off" or not as the case may be before hand.

Either that or it had had 4 owners +. hehe

Are the T5 boxes used in cosworths? if so then there should be lots of companies out there that do work on them as ive heard of 600bhp sierra's!

Thank you all.

Looks like I'll be on the phone tomorrow tracking a suitable box/box-upgrade down.

Today I'll be enjoying the Cerbera as soon as I collect it, butterflies is an understatement!

Yep, but the gearstick is in a slightly different place. Otherwise, same box.

There are MANY variants of the T5. WC, NWC, ones with different internals, tail housings, input shafts etc.

What Torque did the Cosworth one take? The only close one I can find is the limited edition 5.0 Mustang manual that could take the 325lb/ft that the Cerb chucks out. Can;t beleive teh Cosworth one took all that?

Interesting to see what they've moved on to:
Caterham Duratec, Porsche Cayman, Ferrari 360/possibly moved to a Gallardo?, not sure what christof had.

I remember your change to the R34 - what was it like?

I'll also raise you a Martin(?) Buckland to that list... now thats REALLY going back some in Cerbera terms...

Mmmm?? not sure about the one im thinking of? was a rs500 though so you would think it was 2wd, but on that note could you put in a 4wd cossie box and transfer box in a cerb?scratchchin oow a 4wd cerb! that would be nicebiggrin

Quick, but pretty dull after a while. You just pushed until the car understeered, eventually.
Lots of grip so you could just boot it everywhere, even in the wet.
Ludicrously expensive to tune though, and most are not all that reliable. I shifted mine before I got any major problems, but overall it wasn't a very positive experience.

The image was very bad also. You would get 'nuff respec from the local krew/massiv but ridicule or dirty looks from everyone else. Plus it looked rubbish!
