my car was recently serviced and one of the notes was the thread on the sump plug thread was a bit suspect so they added some PTFE as a precaution. The car has started to drop a little on the drive over the last week via the sump plug. I got the car up on axle stands, nipped it up and topped the oil up. It really needs taking out, drilling and threading. Does anyone know the correct standard size for the sump plug and the thread? and what tolerance I have to increase the size? I can then drop the oil and replace with a slightly larger plug. many thanks

You might do better inserting a steel replacement thread like a timesert if it's mullered - then you could use a standard TVR sump plug and not have the worry of striping the thread again.

hmm sounds interesting do you have any more info? I just assumed a replacement a MM or so bigger would be the easy, safe and clean option. I need to do this on the car (on axle stands) really.

Can't help with the specific size you'd want, but here's a sump plug page from their website. http://www.timesert.com/html/drainplug.html

thanks, looks like a good way of doing it.

Does anyone know what size is in there now? I obviously can't remove mine without dropping the oil. I'm also scared to do so just incase the plug wont hold when I put it back in.
