Just a note of thanks to trackcar, I installed one of their cooling kits on friday just before leaving for goodwood. After sitting in traffic for well over an hour and a half and barely moving the car didnt budge above 90 on the guage. Previously it hovered around the 100-105 mark whenever it even sniffed at traffic (but never actually overheated as such). Strangely enough the car actually drives better full stop, maybe the software was better than the original. All in all a good 70quid well spent!

yup took about 10mins, just unplug the ECU from behind the panel near the passengers feet, un-do the 4 screws taking the lid off and swap the chips over. The water wetter stuff just goes in the expansion tank. Just be carful you dont bend any of the pins on the new chip, best to put one side in then genty use a small flat screwdriver to get the other side in.

Raelly want one of these. They are a doddle to install but sadly I have a non standard ECU. Grrrr.

Looks like the best £65 you can spend on a cerb.

I only know this as Joo told me but apparently the water pump isn't pumping when the engine is idling (may be same on normal cars i don't know)

So if your engines hot in traffic, rev it to say 2.5k rpm and hold it there and watch the temp fall right back.

this is a very handy tip if you get stuck in traffic and its hot, although everyone wonders why your revving it so much

It still pumps Edd, just not very efficiently .. so maybe every ten seconds in sixty raise the revs to get the water circulating better .. if you keep the revs at 2500 you'll very quickly have glowing exhaust manifolds wink

yes its a straight swap as long as you have a standard ecu and chip in the car. it also comes with a bottle of the water wetter stuff. its listed in the trackcar website.

You have already got one !!!! The RR chip in your car had the cooling mod added by Trackcar a yr or so ago albeit it would be worth adding some fresh wetter water.

ooooooooooooooooooops But the temp seems to rise to 100 so presumed based on the other comments that it didn't have one

Joo, as you know Im not the brightest spanner in the toolbox when it comes to engines etc. I assume I cant use one of these cooling chips if I want to keep my Austec mapped MBE?

Fubes, just talk to Paul and get him to do you a new chip, using your old map, with revised fan temps in it. Easy.

No you can't.
Sadly that is position I am in. Your removeable chip will be sitting on some module which must be doing something 'non-standard'. rolleyes

It should be possible to do the change to the austec chip aswell as it should present the info in the same way through the board, so you'd just need to copy the info through the serial port and burn a new chip .. but there's the issue of effectively having to copy the austec remap data first and i wouldn't want to do that anyway ..

I can recomend the TCS cooling chip it got well tested coming back from le mans sat in traffic on the way back at the peage for well over an hour and it never went over 95 first time ive sat in traffic and not stared constantly at the temp gauge only problem was with the fans working away and the aircon on full and the music box playing it drained the battery and eventually cut the engine it was embarrasing pushing it through the toll but started on a bump start and alls well in the world.
