interior weight
Discussion
does anyone know the weight of the cerbs interior roughly, seeing as I dont consider my interior in all that great nick anyway, (tweed looking a bif naff/tatty by now, bolster wear, etc) half wondering if thered be much to gain by stripping the whole lot, including dash, then just putting in a kevlar drivers seat, simple carbon or stainless flat race style dash and simple light steering wheel. Its an alternative to forking out a load for coachworks. If its not going to save any worthwhile weight, then I won't bother

I really hope for your Cerb's sake, that it stops raining soon, so that you can get out and drive it! ;-)
Remember im coming from a w220 S Class merc, so Im not in this car for its interior, i made the change for performance, to lose all the weight i was lugging with the s class. there is no greater performance improvement that can be made to any car than weight reduction!
remember also, this is a 1997 interior. it is starting to look tatty in places. its not a "crime" to pull it.
I'm not knocking the purists out there, I understand fully what they like to achieve, and that they fear the demise of the marque in the hands of those who would chav-ify them with neons and spoilers etc.
Loud as the car would doubtless become with no interior to help insulate out the sound, I actually wouldnt mind hearing even more what the chassis/suspension etc are at.

Alval - please tell me your on drugs and your just hallucinating! Don;t you ever see people look at your car when it's parked, and thenthen bend down to have a look at the stunning interior? You've got a Cerb now, and forking out shedloads to keep it looking good and working properly is what it's all about.AlVal said:

I reckon that an upgrade to the nut behind the wheel is a far better performance improvement personally. I dont know what your abilities are like, but for the vast majority of us (even on PH) - theres huge scope for improvement, which is bloody good fun!

alval i think you really need to get out and drive this car more, and drive it hard, you'll see it does'nt need to go on a diet.the bit of weight you'll save won't make that much difference on a road car.you won't get beaten by 99% of other standard road cars.you'll feel what the chassis/suspension are up to the harder you drive it.as for the interior it's still a work of art even after all these years,ok the edges peel up and the seats get worn, but its a car produced in low volumes and the build quality suffers.just love the skin your inremember also, this is a 1997 interior. it is starting to look tatty in places. its not a "crime" to pull it.

Hum - I don't understand this. I feel what the chassis/suspension is doing, sound only comes into engine note so I know when to change gear (or the manic beeping of the rev counter). My 4.2 cerbera was 1240Kg with 3/4 tank of fuel and little me in it (approx 60Kg). Anything less and I think you'd be in trouble with traction.
As mentioned, I'd get out and try a few trackdays. At my first I improved significantly as I got used to the cars limits/characteristics.
Edit: P.s. it was designed as a GT car after all

Haven't got a clue what you look like Al, but I've always thought about lighteneing the car for a few extra gains but......then I thought why change the car when I could probably lose a few of my extra pounds.
Simple, keep the car original'ish and make yourself a bit trimmer - everyone's a winner.
However, as I said, I don't know what you look like, so this may not be achievable - but it is with me!

Seats are the heaviest bit, then maybe door panels and the electric stuff in them. the centre consul does not weigh much, the heaviest item is the body, i could pick the chassis up on my own, power lifting stylie, but the body at the back is a two man affair.
I must admit I would change the seats, and I have the tuscan seat. I did like the seats in Craigs (Nitro Cerbs) car, but the seatbelt config would just stop it, as I want to be able to still get my son in the back in his seat.Mr F
Losing some of the old body mass index is definitely best option. If I dont't do this myself soon, I will have to put heavier seats in my car. The old seats I had in my Daimler would be good, as the current seats give my bumhole a right pounding.
Carbon Fibre Ah?? Whatever next. How about a nice cubist occasional table and some bean-bags?
