Can any of you guys in the know please help me distinguish between a car that has the natural modern headlights or one that has had a conversion. confused

example (a)
The way I see it is that on cars with the modern lights fitted as standard; particularly on the 4.5 lightweight models, the headlight pod fits inside the front wing as a unit and there is a distinguishable stylish look to them. (depends on your taste I suppose)

example (b)
On the other hand, a car that has had a conversion the wing and lights are like one moulded unit with no defining lines, still looks ok. (depends on your taste again)

Am I mistaken about the headlights or does it depend on the year, model of the car.

example (a) http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/193233.htm
example (b) http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/193950.htm

Can somebody enLIGHTen me please ?

Even if I was mistaken, although my suspicions seem to have been confirmed., that was possibly the best £25 I have ever spent wink

I think it's impossible to tell just by looking at them. Some conversions have the headlamp pod bonded on, then filled, others just have the pod bolted on as normal.

Thanks JensenA, your probably correct, but something just struck me as odd about the lights and the front end on the car in example b.

I don't want to open up a whole can of worms here, but....

An old cliche rings true:

If a Car looks too cheap, theres generaly a reason.

I dont think either car looks too cheap.
Car a) has the non blended later lights as per the model year.
Car b) however has blended lights. I think they are done in the 'Speed 12' style. I think they look wrong in the pics. They are not as per how the car left the factory. Later lightweights had the blended lights.

Gazza you are entirely correct.
Car (a) to me looks stunning , but like you say pricey and my offer of £20,000 cash was turned down.

Car (b) for my liking was a good option for me as the price is lower and is the cheapest 'lightweight' I've seen with that mileage.

As I was seriously contemplating buying car (b) I got a vehicle check done and my suspicions, the same conclusion you came to Gazza, were confirmed.

The headlights on that car were not the standard ones it left the factory with, very far from it in fact yikes

oops quick edit there, almost left my self open to a liable claim

Amazing how a photo in the advert can make a car look not quite right and then it isnt quite right.

Shame to be honest, because this is exactly the model I am after, with a desirable mileage, nice colour combination and fits in well with my budget.

I've had all the confirmation I need now so I don't mind divulging the fact that this car was a Category D Insurance write off.(note there is no mention of this in the advert and the price does not truly reflect that in my opinion). Cat D is light damage I know, but in a private sale you have to at least trust the seller.

The guy selling the car generaly doesn't answer the phone or respond to e-mails much, when he did contact me, again there was no mention of damage history.

I polightly informed him via email that I do not wish to purchace a car with this kind of history and I've not heard from him since.

To other PHers BUYER BEWARE.

Still searching banghead
