I did this not too long ago....
Take the purple hoses off. You'll also need to remove the fuel rail...
Then, once it's detached, you can jiggle the motor past the wiring looms and get it out.
You'll need a socket set with a pretty long bar attached to an allen key to get at the two motor bolts....

You need a good Allen key socket set, and a long extension to make it easier.
1. Remove back engine cover thingy.
2. Disconnect the Battery.
3. Remove both air boxes.
4. Remove the to back 4 purple air hose - this was on my 4.5, not sure about the 4.2
5. Undo the 2 Allen head bolts holding the starter motor in place. They are on each side of the starter motor, sort of in line with the V of the engine if you know what I mean. 'Crack' the bolts off, ie give the socket a good sharp first bang to start with, rather than a steady hard twist.
5. Disconnect the wiring from the motor.
6. Now fiddle around trying to lift it out, it will come out but it is a tight fit.
I think that's all, hope I haven't missed anything. Oh yeah, while your down there you may as well put a new Big fuse in.

when i did mine i removed it no problem without removing the air boxes, just removed fuel rails, disconnected the throttle cable, couple of hoses that were in the way and then undid the two bolts once the starter was loose turned it through 180 deg and it is easy to gain access to electrical connections, remove these and the starter will come up and out bit of a squeeze but trust me it does come through the gap, good luck with it anyway
