Strange aircon behaviour

When I first start my car the air con is ice cold. Them, after a few mile it gets les and less cold until it is not really working anymore. Next day, same thing. It has been re-gassed, re-oiled and checked for leaks. There must be a sensor, valve or something else in the system that is backing the performance off the longer it runs. Any ideas?
