Well i thought i would start a new thread since the last one grew arms and legs!

Having spent most of the weekend fettling my Shocks, i'm fairly happy with these settings for the roads around Aberdeenshire..

Ride height to the outriggers
front 155mm
Rear 165mm

Rebound
Front 14 clicks
Rear 18 Clicks

Tyres
Front 22psi
Rear 24psi

Having said that i'm not overly impressed when comparing to the original shocks, but maybe the suspension will always be short of answers on the bumpier country roads we have here. I'm definitely struggling to find a balance between compliance and rebound.

The main annoying thing is a spring creaking/cracking that has never gone away from the rear nearside shock since i fitted the shocks last week, either that or it's another suspension component, but it didn't do it before. It only appears on bumpy roads, slow or fast and there's no way i can live with it, it sounds horrendous.

Anyone else experienced this?

Cheers

Hi Rob
Did you try it slightly softer on the front say 2 clicks and slightly harder on the back say 2to4 clicks.

Second question, did you tighten the shock bolts too much in full droop because when you drop the car down to its normal road position and the shock bush tries to go to the new position and can't because its too tight, it can creak. I would loosen off the bolts on that shock first and just nip them up and see if the noise stops, if not call me.

You did what i did , and didn't read the instructions properly. Your suppose to tighten the shocker mounting bolts with the car on the ground !!! ...just don't ask how!!!!, unless you have access to a pro lift. I give mine a liberal squirt of WD40 and it eventually goes away. Best of luck.

Thanks gazman and blueflash, what you say makes sense, I will get the car on axle stands, take the wheel off then the use my trolley jack to lift the suspension back up from droop and re-do the bolts.

I’m pretty sure there was nothing on the single page info sheet/load chart that I got with the shocks concerning bolt make-up?!

I will continue to play around with the settings too, in search of that elusive, perfect set-up biggrin

You will appreciate that even though you will probably be running fairly soft on the new kit your old set-up could have been really soft, particulaly on the front end and it is a bit of a culture shock to have suspension that actually works because initially it could seem too stiff.

I'd have a play and see how it goes for a few miles.

My standard offer to all customers comes into play here.

If the spring/damper combination I have suggested doesn't suit your specific needs, I will replace the springs FOC and only ask for the carriage fee.

Yes I did discuss this with your better half at Snett.
It will be interesting to see any changes after you have been chucking it round German tracks

I'll give you a bell some time next week and we can arrange something for the week after, if that's OK with you? smile
