Tacho problem (No it's not the 'Big Fuse')
Discussion
There's plenty of posts on Tacho problems, all of which normally lead to 'Big Fuse'.
The needle on mine drops around a 1000 rpm when I put my foot down. My initial thought was alternator belt slipping under high torque, but having checked it, I'm no longer sure.
I've cleaned all the Battery connections, replaced big fuse etc, but these would surely manifest at any time, not just under throttle.
Perhaps the sensor needs adjustment? Where is it and what should the gap be?
I may stick a meter on the battery and take her for a spin to see if it is charging probs.
Any other ideas welcome

Took it for a run with a meter attached and it was thoroughly inconclusive. Trying to watch 2 meters, avoid potholes and bends etc was tricky, plus every time I got a clear run a car would pull out and poodle at obscenely slow speeds.
Will need to try again with a better meter. My AVO 8 has given up and the small meter I used had a 50v fsd.

Trevor,
mine was all over the shop, on giving it beans the needle would 'swing' before getting back on track.
Changed the alternator and it is better. Obviously a more obvious problem with the alternator is charging - a problem I also had!
Leven also mentioned to me that the rev counter is balanced by weights on the rear, these have been known to fall off, requiring a removal and send off to whoever makes them.
