engine number/oil dipstick
Discussion
Found on the gassing station that the enginenumber is at the back of the block. Can't seem to find it. Do I have to go underneath the car to see it?
When I look in my owners handbook I see that a 4,2 cerb should have a dipstick which is located somewhere on top of the block and that a 4,5 has a dipstick in front of the block. I've got a 4,2 and everything looks original. Did TVR change this and use the same dipstick on the 4,2 as on the 4,5?
It is a bloody dipstick anyway. Whipe it of, stick it in, get it out and oil is everywhere!

Hi
Mines a 97 4.2 and the dip stick is on the front right hand side if that helps?
John
Your sump has been changed at some point then Mines a 97 4.2 and the dip stick is on the front right hand side if that helps?
John

Would this be a good thing or a bad thing????
Cheers
John

This is all from distant memories from when my dipstick broke, so take a pinch of salt...

I'm not too sure what the difference is between the earlier and later sumps, but they both perform as well as each other I believe.
If your sump has been cracked at some point then it will have been replaced and come with a new dipstick.
One thing i didn't consider is that I think you can just buy the new dipstick setup on its own? You can't actually buy an early dipstick anymore, I had to weld mine back up again when it broke. Not sure how well the newer dipstick will work with an older sump, or whether the two have to be replaced at the same time.
