I've just bought a TVR 4.2 Cerbera, 23K FTVRSH, Silvery/Green colour and have experienced the following issues, any help guidance much appreciated!

1) 1st day - Airlock: I experience this shortly after picking up the car, no warranty applied and it was bought as seen. I managed to get Steve from Uforia racing to pressure test the coolant all was ok, turned out to be the coolant cap... :-)

2) 1 week later - Stalling When Hot: Not sure what this is as yet but have booked into a garage at APW Automotive to take a look

3) 1 week later - Water in Drivers footwell, I was driving back from london yesterday and went through a few puddles and could not avoid them, not sure if that was the cause or weather its a leak from the drivers door etc???

I had the option of getting a Porsche 964/Maserati 3200 and I opted for the Cerbera for 6 months, they are such a great car to drive and wanted to use it in all weather conditions, so far proving a little difficult.. :-(

All common issues, I would suggest using the search facility.

1. Airlock - Well known problem. You need to get the air out the system and ensure the cap is on fully - very tight.

2. Stalling when hot. What's you're usual idle speed?
You could always fire up the diagnostics software and have a look at the current settings to give us a good idea.

3. Water in footwell. Have a search. There's a number of places water can get in, from door seals to the clutch master housing to bulkhead access for cables etc.

23K miles is a good find for an early car.

Thanks for the swift response everyone.

The airlock is now fixed

The usual Idle speed is between 700-800 rpm, when its been ok usual around 900 rpm.

I will get the garage to take a look at the waterleak if poss- I'm suspecting it may just been the big puddles I had to drive through. I have only located water just under the drivers seat at the front, seems all dry by the clutch and brake area.

If you pull up the drivers footmat, you may find the grommets in the floor are missing, the water could come in there. Also the driverx door seal is a common one!

Water leak: I have just check again fully and noticed to spots of water ingress, one by the accellerator and one by the clutch.... will investigate further when I get home.

I have a family of ducks in the passenger footwell....I like to think of helping nature with one hand whilst killing it with a 4.5 V8 with the other. smile

Big puddle in the drivers footwell!!!!, I took all the carpets out two days ago and it appears its coming from above from the engine etc, I have ruled out the drivers door seal, any other any ideas?

Also noticed a little leak on the passenger side at the top, on the cover that fits just under the dash, any ideas pls where this could be coming from?

HOT STALLING: I managed to fix this by resetting the ECU. Not sure how long this will last, but we shall see.

Check that all the bolts, the clutch fluid reservoir cover and the brake fluid reservoir are properly sealed in with silicone sealant on the drivers side of the engine bay.

Hi Tarik

Here's a list of the common leak points on a Cerbera. Happy hunting.

I'd just like to thank everyone for their responses, so far the car has been great, solved all the problems I had with very minimal cost, the issues with the hot stalling was the ECU Temp sensor, £12 to replace, reset ECU and all running fine.

Going in for its 6000 mile service at APW near Guildford tomorrow, sad news is I may have to sell after that as I intend to resign over the next week or so!! Will hopefully take it up to the next owners club meeting... anyone know when the next meeting is as I have never been?

Cheers and thanks again!
