I am considering buying a Cerbera soon.
Could you experts please advise me on the weak and strong points of all three derivatives.
4.0 Speed Six, 4.2 & 4.5.
As the car will get regular use and be meticulously maintained, which model should I be looking at?
Thanks in advance.

I use mine as often as I can.Sometimes a few times a day, other times not for a few days, I use a solar panelled trickle charge and it always starts first time.I`ve never had any major mechanical problems and I think cerbs are better used daily than sat standing for weeks on end.

The speed six is supposed to be easier to live with as a daily driver? but make sure you get a 2005 car or spec engine with the uprated internals! or have a v8 wich is a stronger engine from what ive heard and read! IMHO the V8 is better!

I have a 4.2 and aside from fixing up things which (I didn't realise at the time) were wrong with it when I bought it, it's been no trouble.

These were all documented on here and all repaired DIY.

I've done about 10,000 miles in mine since last September which is possibly a bit higher than a lot of owners on here, so I'd have no fear in going for another 4.2.

wavey just covered 6372 miles in the last 30 days smile and since Nov 05 I've covered 54000 miles in total. Was worth every penny of the 72p per mile biggrin

edited to say, V8 all the way.

My 1997 4.5 is used daily. Starts first time every time. All repairs to date have been DIY. I always let it warm up well, spank it for about 5% of each journey and investigate problems as soon as they are evident. The only thing that stops me using it more is my limited milage insurance. Cost wise I'm working on up to £1/mile.

3.5k miles in the first 3 months. I had to tone it down a little as I'd only got an insurance agreed 7k mileage (plus a bit)

It just eats the miles so easily I'd take it evertime smile

Got a Speed 6 as a daily driver 3 months ago, done about 6000 miles already, and it's not missed a beat. IMHO the 6 is easier to drive when you're not in the mood, trickling round town, and so on. Also, when not trying hard I get 25mpg!

That's really good. I get about 22mpg on average with my 4.2 V8.
Seen the new BMW M3 - 18mpg! makes the Cerbera seem frugal

I'm approaching 10k miles in 8 months. I'm mindful it's due a 12k service soon so trying to slow down the next couple of 1,000s!

i own a 4.5.... which is awesome ..but if you want a round town car the speed six is better suited ..if you want the thrills then a 4.5 in a must BUT ...a 4.5 is only at its best after tuning and upgrading..the 4.2 is better out of the box...

I wouldn't use my 4.5 every day, but that's based on the horrendous traffic in aberdeen and the constant stop start/walking pace queues. If the traffic flowed where i wasn't dipping the clutch every 5 seconds, then i see no problem as an everyday car, regardless of engine size IMO.

Bit of a hijack - sorry.. buuuuuut

What about short trips in a Cerb?

Currently thinking about taking the plunge into the happy world of Cerbera ownership. I only do about 3000 miles a year and live very close to the office. I currently cycle to work which is good for the soul, bank account, and cardio fitness, but not so good when it's cold / wet / a hangover day / a just can't be bothered day.

Would a Cerb be a no-no for regular short trips, and loger outings only at the weekends???

How far exactly? Difficult to comment without this information.

I live 500 yards from the office and take the Cerb to work, although it does take me an hour to get there wink

Journey to work is about 3 miles... But it wouldn't be every day as I am a pretty keen cyclist and that's my usual transport to work. Weekends would be trips of 50 to 100 miles... Though not every weekend.

That's a bit too short a journey to do even on a moderately regular basis imo. The shortest journey I feel comfortable with is to my parents which is 6 miles away. These puppies take longer to warm up than most. The car doesn't feel right until well after the water temp has stabilised. Needs a good 10 mins of driving. Doesn't mean it can't be done, just that you won't be getting the best out of the car, it will feel a bit rattly and irritable and do terrible mileage too I expect. I would get a £200 sh*theap to drive on rainy days.
