General Number plate question

I have sold my car but the new owner does not want the plate (B16 CBY if you are interested!). Does anyone know the process ie how long to get a standard plate put back on and any costs associated with it. Have tried DVLA website without success. many thanks

Are you still entitled to the original number plate for your car?If so you can re-register your car with the original plate and put the current one on a retention certificate until you sell it.Total cost for this is about £105.You have to go to a DVLA local office to do this,you will need ALL the relevent documentation and fill some forms in and you could be waiting a while depending on the length of the queue!It takes about 2 weeks to get the ok to change the plates.
