Stay in the hot-zone: 5+k and you'll kill all supercars I'm sure.

I was out with TheFarmer today and the Cerbera flies.

I don't know of there being a problem with Cerbs sticking in third gear or any gear for that matter. Your car should be like a rocket, so probably a good idea to take it to a garage you trust and get them to have a look.

Don't be fed up smile. Are you going to Brooklands tomorrow? We can all come and admire it wink

It's amazing how little difference there is between cars once you get into the hyperformance zone. I got followed by a Bentley Arnage once when I had the Cerb, and he was stuck on the back of my bumper until we got to 150+... wink

Yes but hes still in a 100k bhhhentlaay!

In all seriousness. Fairnhursts are fairly well known it seems - why not call them and ask. You have lots of rights as the consumer at the mo.

I do think they would sort anything though.

Hi James - so I guess temptation got the better of you wink

I'd offer to give you a drive in mine as promised but it would probably only depress you biggrin

If your not happy with any element of the car get on the dealers case. with the mark up they make the least they can do is make sure it's running as it should!
Good luck.

As you are so close to them I'd personally have them look after your motor (once the Fernie one year warranty runs out wink )

Hi James.
Welcome to the club.
I think I understand what you mean about 3rd gear. When I first bought mine I had difficulty at first finding third. From third to fourth was fine. For me it was just about getting used to the box. Now its a breeze. Also I was very very wary of really putting my foot down. There is massive travel on the accelerator. Stick with it. But for your own piece of mind I'm sure there would be someone in your area who would prepared to have a quick look just to set your mind at ease. smile

James,

You need to do the following;

Find an owner in your area with a similar car and do a comparison of the two. This will tell you if you have a dodgy gearbox and whether you are down on performance. If after this you are still unhappy then take the car back to Fernies and explain your findings/experiences, they should hopefully take care of issues thereafter.

Once your car is back to "normal" then drive it for a few weeks to get used to it and enjoy it, then start to consider the upgrade route.

Jules.

Don't take this the wrong way James, but..... smile what sort of cars have you driven before, and did you drive any other Cerbs before buying this one? (and if not, why did you buy one?)
'Normal' fast cars like Evos's, Sccobys and hot hatches can be driven fast by any idiot, just press the accelerator and they're fast, easy peasy. A Cerb is a proper supercar and it has to be driven. Fernhurst have a good reputation, so I would doubt that they would sell you a lemon.
Not sure about the 3rd gear bit, What do you mean by it sticking in 3rd gear?
Cerb's are definitely not 'all show and no go' - the chances are it is you who hasn't learnt how to drive it yet.

the power comes up in the rpms, so play with 60-75% of the rpm range to see what the old beast is made of, but then again you could have one thats only putting 280hp or something like a few have been found in the past.

First point of contact is the garage you bought it from, is there no warranty on the purchase? especially this 3rd gear sticking thing, the linkage could be faulty or maybe a synchro is on its way out... god knows.

Second point, when you're ready to get the car tuned up to spec, take it over to Austec Racing as they're closer to you and ask Paul to give you back a properly mapped monster, I would suggest you stay away from getting encouraged to buy any intake kits and such, just go for a remap, thats it, for now, enjoy it, and then later as and when if decide to keep for the long term then start spending on the mistress lavishly.

HI James
The offer still stands if you want to come over and have a go in mine to see how they compare.

James, don’t worry about the abilities of a Cerb versus a Merc, they are quite capable of worrying and SLR. Sounds like you’ve got some issues, T5 ‘box should shift well, apart from reverse on some, best to go into 5th first, then back to reverse. Hold tight, Fernhurst will sort you out.

Good luck with it James, the idea of a comparison and then refer back to the dealer sounds good to me. Dave

Nope they are definately not slow. I worried a porsche GT3 RS last time I tried.

However - if you've just picked it up to be honest the last thing you should be trying is to floor it.

"Driving a Cerbera is like making love to a beautiful woman. You have to take your time and build up slowly, getting to know all her wiley ways. Only then can you slam her (the throttle) down hard and let her have it until she ad you are screaming in ecstasy"

Or something like that biggrin

Hopefully your car just needs a tune up (eg they can have various items that can mean they are down on power). I hope Fernies are selling better cars these days.
The gearbox prob coul dbe a clutch prob?
I hope you haent spent all your money - you'll need a fair bit to keep it on the road.
Good luck.

james sorry to hear about your problem, but seriously you should definately take it back to fernies and tell them of the problems you have with it legally they should,nt sell you a car they know to be faulty even as a private seller you could get into hot water with that one. give them the chance to put the car right they are probably not aware of the problems, above all dont despair you will get it right how you want it but as said by the other guys dont be looking at nailing it straight away get to know it first or the beast will bite you, take it from us experienced guys who are now used to them they can be a bit of a handfull good luck with her anyway.
