I have 2 ECUs for my 4.2, both, as far as I'm aware are standard MBE units.

One is fitted with the TCS cooling chip, whilst the other is totally standard.

Here's the oddity, when I run the car with the ECU with the cooling chip, the rev counter stops working on WOT and there seems to be a definate loss in power. I felt this at Cadwell park earier in the year, it was almost as if the car hit a rev limit!

I have recently got the car back from having new heads fitted, so though I would try the cooling ECU again, I reset the adaptives, checked for errors etc and ran the car, but it still doess odd things at WOT, there are no errors logged after a run.

The standard ECU seems fine, so I'm assuming that it's not 100A fuse related.

The car has just dropped a cylinder - which has really p'd me off, so I can't go and play any more. I now have to wait for the car to cool and try and find out why it's running on 7!

God, I really hate this car sometimes, after nearly 2 months away I thought it would be running like a dream. ranting

This is in no way meant as a slur on the garage who carried out the work on my car - I know how tempramental these cars can be!

If you have a way of looking at the eprom check that the TCS one has been programmed properly.

My old programmer used to have a problem whereby it lost protocol for part of an epom and just saved FF's into it. This could be affecting your mapping.

Or of course you could send it back to him smile

This is, of course, quite true Julian, but I didn't want to send it back in case it was me being a wally, and the error wasn't with the chip at all.

Tim

Like the last posting, this isn't pointing a grubby finger at TCS.

Wally or not, its only a couple of quid postage and Im sure Joo wouldnt mind giving it the once over? And you do have a spare smile

Has it really got so bad that we now have to put disclaimers at the bottom of our posts to point out we're not dissing TCS (or any other tuner/indie)? Its a sad day if true

Just a sec Tim. You said you have two ECUs, so can you not just try the TCS chip in the other MBE box?

Hi all, just seen this .. that suggestion of swapping the chips over is a good idea thumbup then see if the problem follows the chip or the ecu .. if you have any probs I'll send another chip out to you anyway.

You cheeky bugger!

It turned out that No.8 plug lead was off, so simple fix to the missfire and nothing to do with me tinkering!

Fancy a beer sometime soon? Could probabally get away for a few hours to the Woodman one night, you could even invite that reprobate Jenkins!
