Hi guys, once again I would like to pick your brains, I have been using super unleaded 97 octane in the cerby, does anyone know what the effect of using ordinary unleaded 95 octane would be, apart from crap performance.

No effect, apart from very slightly reduced performance - not 'crap' at all, and increased possibility of pinking if you under-rev - which you won't do, will you? wink

Thanks for that. It will make motoring that little bit cheaper, around here the difference is 9P per litre. so savings could be significant. Every little helps for future servicing and repairs.

Not sure - are you expecting him to have a later engine? My earlier one says to use super unleaded only and my car is tuned that way.

Mine has a sticker saying 97 only or something but first indie I used actually recommended using 95 most of the time, maybe every 4th fill with hi-octane stuff. Seemed odd to me but then funnily enough the highest figure I have yet had on a RR was when I only had 95 in there, so really don't think it is anything to worry about.

I think they all have that sticker. If tuned for 97 or 98 octane they will run better, but its not dramatic.

I put a bottle of STP power booster in a tank as its hard to get anything more than 95 octane here and it works fine.

But when I just fill with 95 there's barely any noticeable difference. It won't damage the engine unless you let it pink lots.
