Muy front splitter is half hanging off on one side, and the threads on the screw hole have gone.

Rather than leave it in this half on/half off state and risk it all falling off at speed, i was wondering whether to take it off completely. Would this have a serious effect on car handling?

And if i left it as it is, would this have an effect also?

Thanks

Greg

Splitter is for airflow through engine, not handling IIRC. Will help keep engine cool + will stop bonnet lifting at BIG speeds. Best get it fixed rather than take it off. Probably some resin will keep it on until you can do a proper job.

Don't have one on mine since a meeting with a ferry loading ramp thing last year - can't say I have noticed any increase in running temps and bonnet (on mine) has been fine at speeds upto about 160 in Germany - above those speeds I don't know and of course each car is a bit different so you could have lifting bonnet syndrome at lower speeds than mine. Better in the short term to run it without than risk it falling off and catching a tyre or flicking up at a car behind etc - then if it can be re-attached at next service then so much the better and if you find it no different anyway then maybe decide not to bother.

TBH, it doesn't make much difference on UK roads if it's on or off.

A good way of fixing it back on is to use some rivet-nuts and machine screws. You will probably find the holes are damaged (oversized) so using an M5 rivet nut would be perfect.

Take it off as you will only lose it again and again and again. If somebody comes up with a clip on version for track days etc, then I would be interested.

I never had one to lose.

It was gone before I got the car.

There was a thread on here about this issue some months back.

I posted something in it so if you go back through my posts in my profile you should be able to locate that thread.

Very surprised to see my 96 car still has one of these and it looks like its still the original fitting to me, albeit a bit flat in places hehe.

Thanks all,

think i will just take it off for now to avoid losing while out driving, and get it put back on at the next service
