How on earth do the spark plugs come out?

Taken off the air boxes etc and can see the little bliters. Tried to pop in my nice little spark plug socket , but couldn't get it into the hole that the spark plug sits in.

All help appreciated.

You need a very 'slim' plug socket. I turned down one of mine, but there are some 'off the shelf' ones that work.
