Speed sensor spacing?

Just going to fit a new speed sensor - can anyone tell me the spacing between the sensor and the rotating bit?

As close as possible ensuring that it doesn't touch.

I'd go for 1-1.5mm.

If it's a magnetic variable reluctance sensor then the gap will be very small indeed, a few tenths of a mil, about the thickness of a piece of paper.
