Is buying a cerbera with 7 pervious owners a bad idea?
Discussion
I have been offered a swap for my Supra and I am very tempted, I dont know lots about TVRs but once I went in it I was hooked.
Its 7 previous owners but it did have a recent TVR inspection and it came back with this :-
--The door button, wont open the door? is this a simple switch or much more?
--Slight leak from diff,
--outer edge of front tyres worn! (they all do that sir)
--aircon needs re-gas!
--brakes squeel when hot! again they all do that but i have ferodo pads in which are very prone to this they told me?
--slight kerbing on one front wheel!
--exhaust rattles at times!
--Slight oil leak from sump plug!
its also had a new clutch 600 miles ago! new gearbox fitted at 20k and new cams followers and tappetts at 30k
what do people think.. Is it sounding dodgy or not? are these usual problems? need advice as I need to make my mind up
P reg 36,000k
Many thanks
Jonnie
whats the value of this.. its purple with good body work and interiors expect a melting windscreen seal

Whoa... That's just too spooky, it's like you are describing the car I bought last week... Even down to the colour...
I fixed the door button thing on mine yesterday. It was a corroded connector inside the drivers door, pretty easy fix really.
From the research I did, you need to be aware that these cars do take a bit of looking after. I think you need to be prepared to get your hands dirty from time to time, or have deep enough pockets to pay somebody to do it. They ain't cheap to run, but worth every penny IMHO.

Door button - known fault, probably the buton itself which is a fiver from RS Components and an easy 30 min job, or dirty connectors inside the door - about an hour and free.

They all do that sir. The cerbera aircon is known to leak gas , but there's really no reason for it. I've just had mined regassed again with new seals and a couple of new pipes to fix the leaks. About £80 for a regass.
A P reg - 36K miles you haven't said if a speed 6, 4.2 or 4.5. I'd say 12k minimum, especially as it's just had it's clutch changed and other history of bills.
Exhaust rattle - check for the centre rubber joint infront of the diff. These seem to break and cause the rear to rattle.
However - it might not be the exhaust but pads rattling in the rear brakes - another common thing.
7 owners for a 10 year old car? It does seem to be a car that changes hands after a year - either people scare themselves (with the speed or loss of licence potential?) or circumstances change, or the repair cost is substantial. Put aside £3k a year on average and if you don't spend it it's a bonus

I paid 10k for it. Was originally up for £10,750. But it's been a while since it's last service (although it's only covered 2K miles or so).
Also, looking through the history I think Lee paid 10K for it himself, so it didn't cost him anything. He didn't have it for very long, apparently he sold it because of personal reasons.

Hi Byker - can the aircon re-gas be done at any old place, or does it need to be a TVR specialist?skoff said:
