Hi

I ve been lurking in the background reading up on the cerbs and it is now time to take the plunge! so looking for a bit of help whilst trying to find the right car.

I am looking for a 4.5 post 2000/2001 really, preferably one of the many blues or would consider grey and with light interior ie cream or portland.

Am tempted to look at the car below but wondering if anybody knows the car or has any comments on the price. It didnt start life as a red rose but had the engine upgraded at TVR Power (3.5k) so dont know if this affects it. Also wondering what the origional red rose came with extra that this will not have?

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/204305.htm

Any help would be gratefully appreciated or if you know of anyone selling their cerb please let me know

Thanks in advance

Regards Wishy

My 4.5LW will be up for sale soon.

Paradise Purple (Lilac/silvery colour), 41K, 2001X, Portland Grey interior with Dark Purple bits . It's going to Power tonight to get some niggles done & new shocks, then it needs to go to Ewelme for a polish.....I'll put it up at about £19k when it's back.

Nice car and not a bad price. Regarding the red rose conversion I'm pretty sure tvr power did all the red rose conversions for tvr so shouldnt affect anything.

Worth remembering that the car you posted the link to is a 2002 model. There were some changes around this time such as slanted rear number plate, body colour rear light surrounds but most interestingly they altered the kingpin inclination on the suspension.

No idea what difference this makes to handling but you would imagine it doesn't make it worse.

Thanks for the help so far and to the people who have said their cars might be for sale, please dont hesitate to PM me. A couple more questions if ok?

Does anybody know what the kingpin inclination was altered for?

Does Red rose only affect the engine not the suspension, brakes or set up of the car and what premium should it reflect in the used market?

Do you think significant upgrades were done to the 2002 cars to warrant the high prices in the classifieds or would a say 20 +/- k, 2001 car be better value?

Thanks in advance

I know of no reason why a 2002 car is much higher in price than a 2001 lightweight.
The RR is just engine mapping stuff. Not worth a big premium, maybe £1K max on a later car?
NEver heard of the kingpin stuff before which I find strange.

The suspension was indeed revised in 2002, though Im not sure what was done to it compared to cars before that date.

WISHY.... I like the look of the car you've linked to... but you're right there are possibly others that have a better all in package......

A car I've previously owned (all be it a couple of years ago) is up for sale again from Offords... and TBH as a comparison of what you can get it might be worth a look... My profile has a complete run-down of spec at least for the time I looked (very carefully) after it.

Disclaimer - I'm in no way linked to the sale of this vehicle before anyone asks. Just a previous owner of which is a very well sorted tidy car.

The factory RR have a bit more than just engine mapping stuff.

Nice little switch for 95/97 for the mapping stuff.

Some black and decker work on the engine to make things flow nice and smooth.

Proper RR disks and not the tuscan drilled type.

And God that switch is dear at over £50.

Anyway click on the link for a list of what is involved in a RED Rose conversion.

http://www.tvrpower.co.uk/ajpV8.red.rose.upgrade.php

Also when I bought mine Red Rose conversions were apparently worth £1500 more than standard 4.5s. But that was over 2yrs ago and according to the CAP Black Book car traders Bible.

Regards
Simon

I have wondered what the difference is between the factory Red Rose option and the Red Rose conversions. I do discount the Red Rose chip as I'm not to sure that's any different to any other up-graded chip but then I could be wrong.
