My car has always had consistent and high oil pressure. Usually 70 idle when cold, only dropping to about 55/60 idle when hot. However, after my third run on Sunday, the hot idle pressure dropped to 30 ish! Still getting 60 when hot at 2000rpm or more, but idle pressure is way down.

Have just replaced the oil pressure relief spring, and it has made very little difference. Anyone have any thoughts on what I have broken. The car has done 63,000 miles, so I should brace myself for another big bill I guess cry

Hi Mark, was good to meet you by the way!

I have just changed the spring, so don't think that is it, but maybe something to do with the valve itself?

Tried changing the oil? You may have worked it beyond its temperature range.

Had a similar thing when I had a Scoob. On the way back from a pleasurable track day at Bentwaters airfield, it had to be coaxed into 5th otherwise it would graunch. I thought this was going to be expensive, but dropping the oil and replacing it with some Silkolene Pro V fixed the problem and it was good for another 80,000 miles before I sold it.

I believe the speed 6 engine runs at a much lower oil pressure than the V8, so possibly nothing to worry about.

i'm not really THAT worried, its been like it ever since i've had it.
it runs sweet, pressure comes upto 35ish @ 1500 rpm, oil is changed very regular, although i'm thinking of switching to a thicker grade than 0-40

Horizon always change the valve with the spring when they do mine. The valve gets "gunked" up.

If it's good oil pressure you want, I'll swap you for the engine out of my Blue one, it's got 80 cold & 40 hot..... however it uses a litre every 500 miles smile

Well, I hope it is just the valve, and not something more serious. Does anyone know where I can get a new valve from? Cant find it listed on any of the usual sites?

Help! Got a new oil pressure valve today, anyone know how to fit it? Also, has anyone changed oil before and NOT primed the system afterwards? Not sure that I will have access to a pump and was wondering if it is absolutely necessary to do this?

I think if I were you (going on the lack of replies on here) I'd be calling whoever normally services the car.

Failing that, I'm sure Andy @ APM (who I use), or ???? @ Austec will spare 60seconds on the phone ! smile
