Just wanted to double check. Anyone know for certain if the looms on the 2 engines are the same?

Are the pin outs on the ECU the same? Will save me a whole load of time if so. laugh

Yes, I'm pretty sure the 4.5 is the same as the 4.5.

Only thing I know (and am aware of, that's not to say there is not anything else) is the throttle pots, the sweep on the two bodies is different so you have to swap the pins around, can't help with which ones or but there are three wires afaik and I 'think' two have to be reversed. You can monitor what's going on with diagnostic lap top connected.

I thought the AJP8s were the same - it's the Sp6 which has the connections reversed as the throttle pots are on either end of a common shaft.
ie....one 'opens' as the other 'closes'.

The AJP loom I dissected had the same connections for both throttle pots.

I can send you a copy if need be.....

All I've seen so far is that the pots on the 4.2 are grey/white and on my 4.5 they're blue.

If you could that would be very handy.

Um not sure, but fairly certain that that the sweep on the throttle bodies is opposite, as I said fairly easy to check pots with the laptop before turning it over.

It's not; on the v8 engines the t-pots turn the same way.

Think about it! the throttles open the same way cos the linking rod pulls the same way as the throttle cable.

And as the t-pots are on the end of the sfafts, they must go the same direction.

But on the S6 they go opposite as they're on either end of the one shaft.

  • Why has the S6 got two t-pots then, I wonder?
A.

Batched control, It's 2 3 cyls as far as Lambda control goes etc (probably due to injection drivers etc not being man enough to drive all 6 off one set).

OK I give up, the loom had to have the wires changed over to allow the 4.2 throttles to be used on the bench dyno for my engine, I was there. Perhaps it was a one off confused.

I did one when I had to make the dyno harness for Austec (which Harry's cannibalised for his engine by the sound of it! wink).

PM me and I'll send you a copy.

They were in Excel format - now published to web but the originals are available as well.
