Autocar on FT.A bit dissapointing
Discussion
Just got the copy covering FT.To be honest a bit dissapointing on the TVR front.Although Chris Harris mentions the ideas behind FT,there is no mention of how any individual TVR stacked up against the rest, let alone a Cerbera. On the pic front, the article is filled with the Lambo that Harris brought along and only a glimpse of a Cerbera against a Cobra, and the front of a Griff and T350.It could have been a lot better.

I have to agree but it's still pretty good coverage for a virgin event, but on a positive note the final paragraph about the potential for next year was encouraging. If there is an FT2 then I think that Autocar may have a greater involvement.

Now we just need to make sure its a mile to save face against the standard Nobles...
would get further spanked by the mk2/997 GT3 though, hmm double edge sword. Ok, how then about mandatory use of nitrous for all Cerbs?
If you use Nitros I might use 5th gear

House, stunning result for a standard 996 GT3 mk2, I expected the 997 would give a fright, but your 996 proved frighteningly quick.
Cheers
Three storming starts and one less so, but the car did all the work. I just ran it up to 8200 in the first 4 gears, changed quickly, and then hung on with foot the floor in 5th. I suspect if it were a mile I would need to call on 6th but the box is so precise on the GT3 its easy to slot the gears at speed without fear of missing one.
I got off the line better than the 997 in our race, but he was gaining on me in the first 4 gears slightly, I could 'feel' him getting closer, but when we hooked 5th the gap stayed the same. Both cars over 150mph will perform roughly the same I think.
Might need to get a GT2 for next time, I think a serious powered GT2 would win a 3/4 event, even with that amazing Noble and Ultima, though if he takes it to 720bhp I'd, em, phone in sick

Its was great of Autocar and indeed Chris Harris to cover the event at all, especially as it was an unknown quantity. I did appreciate the comment about potential for next year, and Autocar did say they would be happy to be involved in the planning for next year, so it can only get better. It will take a few months to get our camp in order to take this event on, the trick is going to make it better for all involved without over-egging the classically simple formula we captured on the day. Needless to say I will be asking for all of your input and thoughts, but we have to accept at this stage that it won't be a TVR biased event next year, I want to try to get one or at most two models of EVERY supercar ever made along next year. I also need to look for another venue that can accomodate the magic mile. To be continued..............

I appreciate in what your saying, but it seemed that your original concept of what the event was about and the concept of how the Cerb stacked up against todays cars was totally missed.I got the impression that the whole article revolved around Harris and the Lambo, and the actual event was just a side line.My only input about next year,is that the catering is handed over to you boys and the proceeds going to the benevolent fund. For a first time event,it was well organised and well planned.Look forward to next year.Edited by longbow on Wednesday 22 August 17:27

You must understand that the wider Autocar readership will indeed want an article on how he fared against the best car on the day. Had that car have been a TVR, then he would have written extensivly about it..
Personally I think Chris Harris and Autocar made a great contribution to the day and We can look forward to bigger and better event next year.

Sign me up Mr Longbow Sir.....and I s'pose we best get Lou a car so she can beat us all in the drag as well as the track!!
Lucks
I agree. It was good that it was covered by Autocar, and Harris,s video blog was well presented.I was just thinking(and my thoughts only)that a bit more could have been made of how the event was created from that first post by Windsor and the amount of involvement in getting it off the ground. Not to mention that the whole idea was to see how The Cerbera stacked up to todays cars.It did make me laugh that in the last paragraph,he states that he would have liked to have seen some Ferrari,s.As if people on this forum didnt try by goading them on the Ferrari forum

Bloody hell Peter, I was so bored I checked you previous car list. Are you by chance an international arms dealer?
Not guilty M'lud. A year in P1 (best money I've ever spent) meant that with judicious allocation of weekday and seasonal low point avantages, I could slice through their entire fleet culminating in a 3000mile Monaco trip in the Murcielago via the Stelvio Pass!
The aim, to use P1 to get me an understanding of fast cars and to select a car that would make a wise used purchase...so:
1) Bought a Maser 3200 (worst money I've ever spent
)2) Realised if you want real speed and thrills you have to DIY - Ultima!!
Soz for that, but you did ask.
