Hello! Long time lurker but first-time Cerb owner - picked up a 4.2 on Saturday. There are a few jobs to do on the beast so you may be hearing more from me, but hopefully I can give some help back as time goes by.

My car has a rather loud sports exhaust - just a couple of small diameter (4" or so) straight-through silencers and I think I should go back to the standard exhaust until the neighbours get used to it!
The backboxes on sp6 4.2 & 4.5 look similar (horizontal box with two pipes in and two out, simplistic way of putting it I know). But I assume they were tuned for the particular engine and you can't put a sp6 onto a 4.2? The parts manual I've got just shows one picture of the exhuast but shows two part numbers (SO189, SO235) so I guess that was for the 4.2 or 4.5?

Just want to know if I need to be specific when looking for an original exhaust?

Thanks,

Phil

Welcome to Cerb ownership, I hope you enjoy it !
The standard rear back boxes on the 4.2 are the same - not sure about the S6, but I would imagine thay are the same. Standard back box's produce a really nice sound - an angry bark - when you put your foot down, and they're quiet enough on gentle driving not to cause too much aggro with the neighbours, ust keep an eye out on Ebay or in the PH Classifieds.

hi Phil, welcome, and good that you got my fave flavour of cerb, the 4.2.

Quite a few on hear are twitchy about exhausts.

Many want louder - I want quieter. SP system looks good. also beware of db levels if you want to go on track.

The 4.2 and 4.5 exhausts are different as the pipe diameter is slightly different, recently bought a 4.2 box and it didn't fit my 4.5 so have to buy new intermediates as well!
