Hi all again.was on the forum 4 weeks ago about loss of drive, had melted the cats, well £711 later, new exhaust from ACT. Cerb drives 90% better but when pedal pushed to floor say in 2nd gear, the car splutters and farts and doesnt pull cleanly at all. Taken to an ex mechanic I know and he thinks it may be the coil packs need changing? Anyone out there who could maybe verify this? Any feedback as always, greatly appreciated!

Hi Kev. Love the colour of your Cerb. Is she a flip paint?
As for your splutters have you look at you throttle joint/linkage?
Also have you hooked her up to the laptop to see whats going on?
Throttle pots etc?

Could be anything like a Coil, leads, blocked air filter?, battery not supplying enough current, fueling (ECU), petrol cap not on tight enough, the list goes on. Better off taking it to a specialist garage IMO.

You need to get it hooked up to a laptop, or you could spend £800 plus labour and then find you still haven't solved the problem - £800 = lambdas, spark plugs, ignition leads, throttle pots, coil packs, battery plus new connectors etc.

However, if you can't, then start with the lambda sensors - have a look at them and see if they look knackered. Mine were half burnt/melted away and urgently needed replacing.

Money's on coil packs, just changed mine for the exact same symptom's. Mine started at FT (so it wasn;t the traction control kicking in hehe) it just got worse as time went by, different car when changed.

Sorry, just seen the bit about melted cats so could be melted lambda sensors as above.

Mines started doing it again. That said, it was stood on the drive for ages, front facing downwards, and on starting it, there were various parts of the engine bay that were submerged in puddles of rain water.

In the past, it's been both the coil packs & the lambda sensors.

APM has just done mine.
New Coils and Leads helped but didn't solve completely.
Finally achieved by replacing the Fuel Regulator as my fuel pressure was on the low side.

Coils and lead have arrived. When I removed the old coils I think I spotted the problem. One was cracked in half! Interesting to note that both the old coils were different. One was a slightly lower design, stampled Bosch. It looked a better build quality than the others. When I get a chance I'll post a picture of the cracked coli for reference.

As promised a couple of shots showing the coil damage. I'm assuming its a thermal stress induced failure. Crack, in goes the moisture, out goes the coil. Impossible to spot without removing the coil.
