I've had an arse of a day and now this!

So didn't go in the cerb for the weekend and went to it this evening and noticed I had left the window open - also thik I (or Smallest Pier) therefore may have left the ignition on.

So dead flat battery. Doors not operating etc.

Connect up the charger in the boot and the alarm siren goes off - not the "big one" but the one under the driver's side rear wheel arch. Anyway I can't now turn it off since I have no charge in the car so neither key fob works.

Disconneting the battery makes the siren much quieter, almost silent so I have done this for now since I don't want to upset the various Neighbourhood watch Grannies that patrol the area (gawd bless em) - presume alarm it is running off an internal battery.

So my problem - I need to have the car battery connected to charge the car - but the alarm is very loud with it connected.

How do i turn off the alarm before charging the battery? Or do I bit the bullet tomorrow at 8am and just connect the whole thing up and hope it charges quickly and no neighbour is working nights.

Or can I connect to another battery and jump start it, then run through the key fob battery rearm thing?

Arse. as I mentioned before. Your help is much appreciated friends.

A towel will help to quieten it if all else fails.

I changed the bat on my car at the weekend and it was a complete bitch to get the key fobs to work again! Eventually (prob by luck) it worked by holding the button down while connecting the bat. it took a good few seconds before it recognised the key fob. plus I used the fob I use most often to open the car I dont know if this makes a dif but when I tried to do it with the other one it was having none of it. once I got one working the other one worked automatically! hope this helps. man life would be dull without TVR's!cloud9

You could disconnect the siren from the alarm module, I had to do this at 3am when my siren decided to keep going even when the alarm was deactivated!

I thought this was impossible believing that the alarm and back up battery are contained in a sealed unit?

at the moment I have disconnected the car battery and have connected a booster pack to it to try and get some charge in.

oddly the booster pack doesn't seem to have enough charge to fire up the ignition, - I tried this before disconnecting the car battery - I guess the main battery must be really dead. In fact it is because it will barely light on of the car courtesey lights frown )

I'd suggest giving the car a jump off another battery with yours still in place, this should provide enough juice to disable the alarm.

Once the alarm is off you can recharge the battery as normal

Why can't you charge the battery off the car, then connect it to the car when charged.

well I fixed it - I think - using the fully charged booster pack the car still would not turn over, but by touching the connectors to the battery posts seemed to trip the alarm and stop it. I was then able to shut the doors and boot and reset the alarm, now the car is on trickle charge- and will stay there for a long long time.
